Bright & Fun Multicoloured Wool Pom Pom Crafty Wedding - Whimsical...

via

I have pure wedding envy this morning. I am a huge lover of colour and craft so I am just head over heels for this celebration.

WWW readers Jaime and Miles held their UK wedding on the 13th June 2015 at Dorothea Mitchell Hall in Warwickshire. They had a humanist ceremony with music performed by Miles' brother followed by a big party and disco for their guests.

Being no stranger to the wool pom pom and making a fair few in my time, I can't believe that Jaime and Miles made 500 of them to decorate their wedding. It must have been a real labour of love, but boy oh boy did it pay off. I am totally trying those two tone poms. Then there were the fringed garlands, giant letters and colouring paper table runners too. Amaze.

Jaime went for a floral kimono style frock she found on ASOS, which looked so very gorgeous while Miles donned a dapper Herringbone suit. Oodles of unicorn poop confetti (yes really) later and you have one very loved up happy pair of newly-weds. YAY.

Huge thanks goes to Melia Melia Photography for sharing their absolutely fabulous photographs.

THE PROPOSAL | May 2013: It was no surprise that we'd get engaged, literally! We decided a few weeks prior that we'd do it and do it soon. We were in the midst of getting ready to move to Sydney permanently and thought it be so nice to get engaged before we left. I was going to leave it up to Miles to choose a ring, but ended up finding the ONE. So we planned a long weekend to the Cotswolds and whilst on a walk surrounded by bluebells, Miles got down on bended knee. Even though I knew it was coming, the moment completely floored me.

THE VISION | One afternoon on Pinterest I came across an image of these bright coloured pom poms and it all went from there. We didn't have a theme, but we wanted it to be bright, fun, non-traditional and definitely 'us.' I'd describe it as an alcohol fuelled children's party. We focused on five colours and went from there! With a lot of help from Pinterest of course.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We don't do things in half-measures - that's for sure. I'm from Sydney and Miles is from Warwickshire, so we decided to have TWO weddings within FOUR weeks of each other - first in Sydney and then in the UK. So, whilst still in the UK we got down to business and booked everything for the UK wedding within a couple of weeks of getting engaged. Everything else was done from Sydney and the two weeks leading up to the wedding we returned to the UK to concentrate on intensive planning and crafting. Many, many lists were written and many Pinterest boards were created! As well as relying heavily on our family and friends!

THE VENUE | We decided we wanted a classic UK country summer wedding, so a village hall immediately sprung to mind. We looked at three, and the third was amazing. We chose the Dorothea Mitchell Hall in the Warwickshire village of Claverdon. It was really beautiful, with lots of natural light and high beams, plus a big patch of grass out the back.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress was floral print, floor length with kimono sleeves and an open back. My accessories were all given to me by my grandparents and my late father. Except my wedding ring which I got from Catbird NYC - featuring white, grey and black diamonds.

FINDING THE DRESS | It was a bit of a nightmare, actually! I'm so indecisive and because I decided I didn't want anything traditional, it made it even harder! I had settled on a skirt and top combo, which I brought to the UK from Australia but 10 days before the wedding, I had a change of heart, raced onto ASOS and found 'the dress', it arrived the next day, and was perfect - I just had to get it slightly altered and picked it up the night before the wedding! Talk about cutting it fine!

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Miles' mid-blue suit was by Herringbone, shirt and tie by Hugo Boss, pocket square and socks by Ted Baker, shoes by Windsor Smith and watch by Projects.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Our good friend Rachel read the reading during our Humanist ceremony - "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" by Dr. Suess. We entered together to "When I'm With You" by Best Coast and walked back down the aisle to "The Music Sounds Better With You" by Stardust. Our first dance was "Always Forever" by Cults. We did all the music ourselves via Spotify and asked all our guests to request a song for the disco!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | We decided not to have a bridal party - simply because we wanted a fuss-free day where everyone can relax and enjoy themselves.

THE FLOWERS | Our flowers came from a local flower farm, Honey Pot Flowers. We were given a selection of seasonal flowers including alliums, feverfew, roses, cornflowers, sweet William and pinks. We arranged my bouquet, button holes and table settings ourselves!

THE CAKE | Our cake came from Sweet As Cakes in Leamington Spa. It was a naked Victoria sandwich cake and it was AM-MA-ZING! It was all gone by the end of the night. Our cake topper came from From The Owl.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Our photographers were Jo and James from James Melia photographers. We decided on them pretty much straight away and they were so amazing on the day. We felt like we were just hanging out with a couple of mates we felt that relaxed with them. We hardly even noticed them taking pictures and the results are unreal. They're legends.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | After the ceremony we had drinks served by The Travelling Gin Co. We had prosecco, G&Ts and and a specially made cocktail, gin mojitos - which went down a treat!

For dinner we had wood fired pizzas and salad by The Wild Oven which were amazing. And our friend provided the most epic cheese board for supper!

Miles' brother is an amazing musician and is part of a duo Penrose & Hayler who performed for us and our guests a beautiful acoustic set of romantic covers - there weren't many dry eyes and it was a nice quiet moment in the middle of the wedding.

We hand made around 500 woollen pom poms, which we tied to the back of the chairs and used to make the seating chart.

We spent hours and hours cutting coloured crepe paper to make bunting.

We used craft paper as table runners and put jars of crayons on each table - mainly to keep the children occupied, but the adults definitely got in on the action!

We made our wedding favours /place cards - which were donut stickers! We found a printable pdf on Pinterest (of course) and my friend printed them off for us and made the card name tags!

Our table numbers were some wooden numbers we bought on eBay and spray painted them ourselves.

We bought confetti from Etsy, bought cellophane bags and made them up ourselves by tying the tops of the bags with coloured wool. (James and Jo told us we won the award for the most confetti!)

Miles' Mum and Dad put together our beautiful wedding arch, decorating it with gauze, loads of flowers and of course, pom poms!

And our friends Helen and Rachel made our epic giant letters, they were just amazing!

THE HONEYMOON | We went away for a week to Copenhagen and Berlin. We decided on a city break to make to most of us travelling all the way from Australia. We had an amazing time.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The whole day was so much fun from start to finish! We loved peeking out through the curtains watching everyone fill up the hall and getting excited for the ceremony. It was nice to enjoy the build up together and to walk in together too! The speeches by Miles and his dad were so heart felt it was definitely hard to hold back the tears. We loved our 'disco' and that all our guests got involved - so much so, we were taking the pom poms off the back of the chairs and wearing them! And then after the wedding all going into town together and dancing in a cheesy club till 3am! Amazing!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | I know it's easier said than done, but don't stress! Even if things don't go to plan try not to worry too much, because no one, not even you will notice on the day!

We found the whole planning process a lot more fun when we treated it like planning a party, rather than a wedding. That way we didn't end up worrying too much about all the little details that can crop up when planning a wedding.

Don't be afraid to delegate to friends and family.

Just do what you both want to do, not what you think you ought to!
