What Do Beauty Editors Do For "Me Time?"

What Do Beauty Editors Do For "Me Time?"

As beauty editors, there's a slight misconception that all we do (inside and outside of the Makeup.com office walls) is play with makeup. It may be hard to believe, but being a professional beauty editor isn't all about immersing yourself inred lipstick and nail polish - there's a lot of data and crunching numbers, long hours and endless networking, which is why we've learned to appreciate our downtime that much more. While we all do "me time" differently, from pizza and Netflix to a big ol' glass of chardonnay and a relaxing bubble bath - THIS is how Makeup.com editors relax while no one's watching ...

"... quiet evenings or mornings at home often consist of a hair mask or facial while '90s pop tunes play in the background. Clearly I lead a riveting life."

It's funny how my "me time" has transformed so drastically in the latter half of my 20s! In recent years, I've come to recognize the importance of"beauty sleep" and how lack of sleep can really take its toll on your face. I take every opportunity to sleep in and give my face and body some much-needed rest.

As sad as it sounds, the thing I look forward to most when I have a day off or long weekend is sleeping in! I maximize my bedtime with a strict regimen of nighttime essentials: anti-aging serum ( L'Oréal Paris Youth Code Texture Perfector Serum Concentrate is a game-changer!), retinol-infused eye cream and a hydrating moisturizer.

My daytime "me time" is just as exciting. I'm a HUGE Pinterest addict, so I can usually be found knee-deep in some DIY craft or recipe. I'm also big on hair upkeep, so quiet evenings or mornings at home often consist of a Kérastase Masquintense Thick hair mask or facial while '90s pop tunes play in the background. Clearly I lead a riveting life.

"I'm addicted to lavender black tea, so adding that into my relaxation regime is a must!"

Now that I'm roommate-free, I've FINALLY got my routine down to something that is both indulgent and practical. Before I do anything, I make sure to light a candle (I love citrus scents) and turn on my favorite French music, which is usually vintage Edith Piaf tunes. I play it pretty loudly, but luckily my neighbors love it, too!

I always carve out time on Sunday to try out cool makeup combinations I've been curious about, and if I have a big day ahead of me later that week, I'll test out eye makeup looks ahead of time (with my trusty Urban Decay Naked Smoky Eyeshadow Palette). This has saved me major time (and frustration) on days when I've had to rush to events since I usually figure out tricky techniques well in advance.

I'm not big on pedicures, but I'll often do a foot spa at home with The Body Shop Peppermint Reviving Foot Soak while reading a book. Lately, I've been getting into at-home peels, which are perfect after a long week. I'm addicted to a lavender black tea, so adding that into my relaxation regime is a must! Good luck getting me out of the house when I have my candle-tea-foot spa-peel routine in the works!

"While this all may sound like a lot of effort, it's what really relaxes me and puts my mind at ease before I head back into the office ..."

My "me time" is a strong balance between being lazy and proactive. I typically like to be out and about during the day otherwise I get a serious case of cabin fever. But, come evening, especially Sunday night, I turn into a beauty connoisseur of sorts - with a side of junk food.

I pick up pizza from my favorite neighborhood spot and come back to some '80s movie I've already seen a dozen times ... and then the primping begins. I slather my hair in coconut oil (then maybe eat a spoonful because I looooove the stuff), and wash it out after letting is sit for an hour or so. But, that's just the beginning! I coat myself in body butter (I love the Kiehl's Creme de Corps Soy Milk & Honey Whipped Body Butter) and then put on comfy socks to seal in moisture!

After that comes the leave-in conditioning treatment, exfoliating facial mask and an at-home mani. At this point, I'm usually on movie number two and mask number two - a moisturizing one this time around. Right now, I'm currently using the SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Masque. While this all may sound like a lot of effort, it's what really relaxes me and puts my mind at ease before I head back into the office on Monday!
