How to: French Twist

The beauty and fashion worlds are all about recycling. Trends from yesteryear always manage to resurface in fresh, transformative ways. These days we're seeing a '90s revival with rich brown lips and bold lip liners making their way back into our hearts and makeup arsenals. And now, this epic decade is also taking over our hairstyles! Remember the timeless French twist that was all the rage, and rocked by every major actress and songstress of that time? Well, that twisted little updo is back in a big way and we are ALL about it. Check out our new (and slightly messy) spin on the classic French twist, courtesy of hair and makeup guru Marygene Rose!

Step 1: Tease hair at the crown to add fullness and volume to the style. For extra grip and body, use a texturizing spray like Kérastase V.I.P Volume in Powder.

Step 2: Leaving some front sections loose, take the hair from one side and sweep it back (slightly off center) and secure it with bobby pins.

Step 3: Focusing on the other side, take only the bottom half of your hair (leaving the top out) and twist it inward towards the middle of your head. Pin the twist down.

Step 4: Tease the remaining front sections of hair and tuck them into the twist. Messiness is key - it doesn't have to look perfect! Pro Tip: For an extra-feminine look, allow some pieces to hang loose.
