We love bohemian weddings. The idea of going back to nature, choosing beautiful yet simple silhouettes and putting the emphasis on a relaxed atmosphere is something that we really appreciate. There is something effortlessly elegant and sophisticated about this theme that gives our boho brides a very special place in our hearts.

For those who don't really know what a bohemian theme is, I would say it is an eclectic mix of elements taken from hippie, nomad and gypsy lifestyles.

It has been particularly on trend lately because the 60s and the 70s have made a huge statement in mainstream fashion, with tight tops, plunging v necklines and crochet, all appearing on the catwalk this season. The bohemian style is so much more than putting flowers in your hair, and we have a great selection of ideas to show you how to create a head to toe bohemian bride.

In our busy everyday lives, we like to go back to the core of things and weddings are these special moments when you focus on the people you love; a bohemian wedding mirrors this in every way, and is all about creating a relaxed, dreamy and romantic atmosphere.

Bohemian style weddings normally take place in slightly more unusual locations and is often about embracing the outdoors; so whether you are hoping for a barefoot beach style wedding, a festival style wedding in the middle of a field or a cosy wedding in the middle of a forest, we have lots of ideas that will inspire brides with a hippie spirit.

THE DRESS

We have put together a great selection of bohemian style dresses from different designers that we adore {and you can find them all at Luella's!}

Rue de Seine is a New Zealand brand that we love. This label completely embodies the free spirit of the bohemian style and their 2016 'Nomadic love' Collection is absolutely stunning. The new collection is full of gorgeous details; including long flowing trains, see-through long sleeves, beautiful lace trims and unique beaded elements.

Rose & Delilah is a Californian bridal company that possesses a very beautiful signature look. Their wedding gowns are romantic and relaxed in style and perfect for the boho bride that loves lace. We are obssessed with their "Tulip" gown, from the fitted silhouette to the low back, and the loose ribbon tie, it has everything that a free-spirited bride will fall for.

Sally Eagle is another great New Zealand designer with a boho feel. Her gowns are very romantic and understatedly elegant. This Felicia dress has a modern look with its pin tucks bodice and flattering bust shaped cups but what gives it it's boho feel is the Lindee Rose jacket that the model is wearing on top of it. It's a great trick to add a jacket if you want to add a gipsy twist to your look. Sally Eagle - Felicia Dress with Lindee Rose

THE FOOTWEAR

When looking for a bohemian style pair of bridal shoes, there are lots of different options to choose from. Part of your choice may be influenced by the style of your dress and how daringly, different you want to be, but your choice will also definitely be influenced by the location of your wedding.

On a beach most hippy brides choose to wear sandals or even sometimes go barefoot. If this is the case then these Nymphi Design footpieces are just perfect. They have lots of styles so its easy to tie them in with your chosen look and they are really comfortable to wear.

If you are having your wedding in a forest or in a venue that requires you to wear a pair of shoes then we suggest a pair of sandals, cow boy style boots, or even knee-high gladiator sandals.

COMPLETE THE LOOK...

Of course flowers are a big part of weddings in general and flower crowns are definitely popular with bohemian brides. From a very delicate heather crown to a beautiful halo of twigs and wild flowers, anything goes, so chat to your florist, have fun, and create something really different {we love this from Harriet Parry Flowers}

Another option is to go for a boho style headpiece and there are simply hundreds of these to choose from. The benefit of these is that they will last for ever and can be worn to other occasions. We love these boho style headpieces by Stephanie Browne and Jannie Baltzer.

We also love this gorgeous faux flower halo by Magpie Vintage, the advantage of this is that it won't wilt throughout the day and you can wear it again.

Your jewellery will depend on your other accessories, but if you don't fancy wearing anything too big in your hair, this statement necklace by Magpie Vintage might be a cool addition to complete your boho look.

We hope this bohemian theme has inspired all our free-spirited brides and look forward to sharing more ideas with you soon.

Lots of love,

Luella's x
