Creative & Vintage Cottage Wedding in the Peak District -...

via

Hello there beautiful. I hope you had a super lovely weekend full of wedding planning :-) This morning I have the pleasure of sharing a loved up wedding with a special first look and a cute pup.

WWW readers Marie and Paul married on the 27 th September 2014, choosing to hold their wedding in a cottage in the Peak District. They found the Peak District Holiday Barn, with an amazing large space perfect for their celebrations.

Marie designs the most stunning accessories and jewellery ( Marie Canning) so you can only imagine just how thoughtful and stylish their wedding would be. There was a vintage feel complete with home grown blooms, vintage dress and pretty maids in floral frocks.

Marie created the divine floral bridal and bridesmaid accessories herself and sourced other items for their wedding from creative friends.

Thanks so very much to On Love and Photography for providing these dreamy images today.

THE PROPOSAL |A few years ago Paul took me on a date to Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire. I'd never been before but it instantly became my favourite place. Its so beautiful, nestled in a gorgeous valley full of independent shops and boutiques, I decided I wanted to move there one day. Last December, Paul surprised me with a weekend trip to Hebden Bridge, he booked a beautiful apartment over looking the quaint town and proposed one evening with a beautiful ring made by our friend Luke Rose. A few months earlier I'd been at a craft show working and I met the very talented Samantha Bryan who's work I'd loved for a while. She makes these amazing fairies...you must check out her website as I can't begin to describe how enchanting they are! I thought I might cry when I saw them and blurted out in front of Samantha to Paul "if you ever propose just get me a fairy instead of a ring!" I forgot about that until Paul began to pop the question, with a huge big box with a gorgeous fairy in it pulling my ring in a glass cart behind it. I was overjoyed! A fairy and a ring in one go!

THE VISION |Our main priority was to have as many friends and family there as possible within our budget. Our favourite memories are staying in big cottages with friends for the weekend so we wanted to try and replicate that. We knew we had to do the serious bit and get married but for me it was all about the celebrating, the music, dancing and all the fun!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | I was so excited after we got engaged I couldn't concentrate in the studio, I just kept looking up venues, shoes and dresses! We booked a lot of things quite early in our excitement but then as the months went on we became a little more lax in our planning.. our invites got sent out 3 months later than planned and we left the catering so late we ended up just booking someone before we met them... luckily they were great! It was the last month that we knuckled down and everything finally came together. My favourite part of the planning was just talking about it with my friends and especially my hen do!

THE VENUE |It took a while to find a cottage that was big enough for us and we wanted to get married in the Peak District (where Paul is from). We finally found one that could fit all our bridesmaids and ushers in for the whole weekend. It also had an old disused tin barn out the back which the owners said we could use for the wedding. It was the only venue we visited and it was perfect.... although the tin barn was pretty rustic, missing part of the roof etc but that was sorted by having the inner lining of a marquee built inside it. It also had a beautiful little outhouse which me and Paul had for the weekend, but more importantly where me and all the bridesmaids could get ready without being seen in the morning! We had the cottage the night before the wedding and it was great to have our bridesmaids, ushers and close family there for a BBQ that night and to get to chat before the big day. We hired Darren from Big 5 Catering. My friends had hired him for my hen do and his food was amazing so I booked him for the night before the wedding too. He fed 40 of us by himself and it was all so scrummy. He had an amazing vegetarian selection too.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I didn't want to spend a lot of money on my dress and I really wanted a vintage wedding dress too. I was following a bridal shop called 'Vintage Lane' on Twitter and I loved one of their dresses they posted about one day. I booked the last appointment they had before Christmas and went to see them with my bridesmaid Kerry. It's a lovely bridal boutique ran by a mother and daughter team. They had such a wonderful selection of vintage wedding dresses I knew I would pick one within the hour. I tried on a few and picked my favourite, a long sleeved full length lace dress. It luckily fit perfectly and I got to take it away there and then! For my shoes I found a delicious pair of blue suede shoes from Hobbs which were so so comfortable. I also bought a sneaky pair of flat ballet pumps for later on!

I made my own accessories for myself and my bridesmaids. I made a porcelain rose halo for myself, lots of tiny handmade lemon porcelain roses on a gold halo as well as tiny lemon rose earrings. For my bridesmaids I made a selection of floral porcelain halos, earrings and tiny rose pendants in ivory, lemon, blue, pink and gold. It was wonderful to be able to make all those myself and my bridesmaids looked wonderful wearing them!

GROOM'S ATTIRE |Paul's attire was a lengthy process, he took a lot longer than I did! After a lot of deliberation, buying suits, taking them back, he settled on a suit from Ted Baker and shoes from Dune. I bought him some socks (Paul loves socks!) from Folk clothing, which weirdly happened to match my shoes

THE READINGS & MUSIC |We decided we wanted to walk down the aisle together, so at 2pm once all the guests were seated Paul walked round to the Outhouse to 'knock on' for me. After a few tears we walked across to the tin barn behind the bridesmaids and down the aisle to Quelqu'un M'a Dit by Carla Bruni. We selected readings from some songs we liked. Paul chose 'In my life' by the Beatles and 'Protection' by Massive Attack. I chose '500 Miles' by the Proclaimers to be read by 2 of my best friends Paul and Martin who I worked with years ago. We used to go to a terrible pub and sing karaoke after work and 500 miles was my friend Paul's top hit. So I thought it would make everyone laugh but instead it was very emotional. I didn't realise how poignant the words are in that song until it was read out loud. After the ceremony we walked back down the aisle to cheers to 'Wouldn't it be nice' by the Beach Boys, a song I love that me and Paul dance around in the living room to at home.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS |My beautiful bridesmaids, my 2 sisters and 6 of my friends were so great with the build up to the wedding. They organised the most immense hen do - they hired a yurt in bridesmaids Kerry's mum's back garden out in the countryside, we played games, ate cakes, drank fizz and danced in our yurt until the early hours.. it was a lot of fun! They helped with the set up of the wedding and managed to sort lots of things out on the day which I had forgot about! They wore dresses handmade by my talented studio friend Claire Hart who runs independent fashion label 'Mollie Brown'. We selected pretty floral prints and a sweet style of dress and the girls looked perfect in them, like little dolls!

THE FLOWERS |I love all flowers and I didn't mind what kinds we had, although I am partial to a daisy or two. My dad grew a lot on his allotment and we visited the flower market in Manchester to get extras the day before we set up. My sisters, Paul's Mum and Auntie did all the flower arranging the day before the wedding and my mum and dad set up the flower pots at the entrance to the venue. I loved my bouquet. My sisters made it full of tiny blue flowers, daisies and gypsophila, tied up with string.

THE CAKE |My sisters decided they would like to make the cake. It was a funny process with a few photos in the build up of lopsided, hollow looking cakes but they certainly pulled it off. They wouldn't let me see it until the day and I loved it. It was 3 tiered covered in 100 tiny daisies they had made. Each layer had a different flavour. One layer they had done as Angel Cake as this was my favourite cake when we were growing up. Needless to say it was all demolished by the next day!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER |We were so lucky to have Giulia Zonza from On Love and Photography. I met Giulia a couple of years ago and she takes the photos of my jewellery for my website. We've had a couple of photo shoots together now and she really takes the best photos! She's also very cool and makes you feel very at ease. She was great on the day and we have the most wonderful photos from her. She is the best!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR |I made some ceramic hanging baskets and some little porcelain tea lights. For the favours I made tiny porcelain tags attached to a little bunch of flowers. Other than that we wanted very little fuss decorations wise. We kept it simple to just lots of fresh flowers and striped table runners which I made the week before. We hired some deckchairs for outside and plenty of lanterns.

THE HONEYMOON |My lovely friend Alex who lives in Singapore flew over for our wedding. Very excitedly we flew over to Singapore for her wonderful wedding a couple of weeks later and then travelled up into Malaysia afterwards. Alex's wedding was fabulous and Malaysia was beautiful.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS |My memorable moments are sitting on a chair in the Outhouse minutes before Paul arrived with my bridesmaids excitedly around me and thinking.. oh my goodness.. here we go, laughing and crying to my friends readings and dancing with friends and family to 'No Place I'd Rather Be' by Cassa Lio (Our hen do song).

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES |I had moments of panic in the build up to the day. Its a lot of pressure on you both with the organising and the emotional aspects of it. So we just kept everything as simple as we could to keep my nerves at bay. The ceremony was a humanist ceremony so we could choose the content. And after the ceremony the meal was very relaxed and we didn't have speeches or a first dance. My advice would be to plan the day to how you want it, not how you think you're meant to have it. If there's some traditions you don't want to include then you don't have to, you can have exactly the wedding day you want!
