Chris and Kyoko married near Spain's Malaga at the beautifully rustic guest house Rancho del Ingles. Their day was chock-full of DIY details which the whole wedding party pitched in to perfect. Music, good food, family and friends were the order of the day and Nadine van Biljon was there to capture all the fun. DECIDING ON THE DESTINATION

Chris and I were engaged for seven years, so we had plenty of time to work out what was important for us both; music, good food, family and friends. It seemed fitting to hold our wedding at parents' stylishly rustic boutique guest house near Malaga, Ranch del Ingles. It was the perfect venue for our relaxed wedding. We had lots of friends and family stay to make a weekend of it which was just a perfect way to celebrate with them all.

CEREMONY

We got married outside, under the pergola in the gardens. We decorated it hanging ferns which softened it nicely and provided a little more shade from the setting sun, which was still pretty warm in the evening. Our children and the bridesmaids walked down the aisle to John Legend's ' Stay With You' which had most of us in tears and then, in case anyone wasn't feeling emotional enough, our daughter played ' Here Comes the Bride ' on the clarinet.

RECEPTION

After the ceremony, we headed off with our lovely photographer Nadine van Biljon on a little tour round the farm to get some photos of the just the two of us. We wanted very natural and relaxed photos and are over the moon with how well she captured every detail of our whole day. Cocktails and canapés were followed by fabulous food, all organised by my brother. Our banana, coconut and rum cake was served with coconut ice cream, and had edible butterflies and flowers. My sister owns a catering company Milli's Catering and she lovingly made the cake for us. It was amazing having our wedding meal outside under the fairy lights. We partied all through the night, dancing under the stars and the guests returned the next day for a long lazy paella by the pool.

DIY DETAILS

Decor: Given the heat, fresh flowers wouldn't have been suitable so with the help of my 'wedding task force' (bridesmaids and other friends!) we decorated the already beautiful gardens with bird cages and tissue paper pom-poms. We used various artifacts from around the farm to give it that rustic feel, like these reclaimed shutters which we used to make our own 'Hall of Fame' for the guests' polaroid selfies. It was great to see them all hanging there the next morning and what they all got up to!

Flowers: I got the inspiration for my beautiful bouquet from Pinterest. I wanted white and pink roses with gypsophila and these were sourced for me by a local supplier, Viveros Guzman. We decorated the chairs on the aisles with little bud vases containing local wildflowers from around the farm and provided parasols to keep the guests shaded from the sun. We used local wildflowers in glass vases as our centrepieces, and wrapped them in hessian, trimmed with blue ribbon to match the bridesmaid dresses.

Tables & Signage: On the top table we had different sized candles and an assortment of glass vases with local wildflowers. Rather than menu cards, we had the menu written up and strategically placed so everyone could see it. My wedding task force made all the blackboards- we used A LOT of them on the day to guide our guests in the right direction. We used an old but ornate picture frame painted with gold leaf as our seating plan and kept it simple with gold numbers and pegs.
