True Love Ways At The Marlborough.

True Love Ways At The Marlborough.

You can tell from the way that Lexi and Matt approached the planning and styling of their big day that they're a fun-loving laid-back couple.

You can see it in their cute interpretation of their illustrated order of service, in Lexi's insistence that Bacon and Scampi Fries feature in their canapés menu, in their decision to incorporate a pub quiz into their wedding breakfast and in their oh-so-pretty styling of The Marlborough pub where they had their reception.

I really love this wedding for so many reasons, the beautiful wildflowers, Lexi's short and pretty frock complete with matching headpiece, Matt's dapper sartorial choices and of course the dreamy, luminous portrait shots of the pair of them in the meadow at the end of a blissful day.

I think you'll love it too...

Lexi The Bride:We viewed a number of potential venues around Richmond upon Thames and decided to hold our ceremony at the Orleans House Gallery, Riverside, Twickenham. The venue is set in a secluded and beautiful spot by the Thames and there is always a fantastic range of art exhibitions in place here. The Octagon room itself is richly decorated in the extravagant Baroque style and it was clear how simply brilliant it would be for the ceremony.

We wanted a relaxed and fun wedding reception which lead us to ask our local pub if they could help us out. The Marlborough Pub, Richmond has a great atmosphere and style. The pub's conservatory, decking and large garden were to provide the foundations for everything we needed to create something very unique on the day. We would recommend both venues highly. In particular, the teams supporting us at both venues were fantastic and made it so easy for us to relax and enjoy the day.

We hired a classic Routemaster bus to get guests across the bridge to the evening venue in a fun way.

Going to the hairdressers with my Mum and Mum in law during the morning was an enjoyable start to the day and a nice way to relax. I had previously talked through some styles with Emma, my regular hairdresser and we opted for loose curls which lasted all day!

Minna created a simple handmade/bespoke design for me using a plain Scottish Lace embellished with feathers. The dress was a knee length vintage coloured cream gown, finished with small fabric flowers and a ¾ sleeve. After an initial consultation, I met Maria for a fitting and she was able to create exactly what I wanted. Minna also created a fabric floral head piece in pinks, neutrals and pale greens which was decorated with pearl buttons.

I wore suede peep toe stiletto shoes with gold metallic detail by Jimmy Choo and the Minna headpiece. Matt wore a three piece suit by Reiss, shirt by Mr Start and wingtip brogues by Grenson. He picked up a bow tie from Hackett and sported a Burgundy spot pocket square by Turnbull & Asser.

The Marlborough provided us with a fantastic "canvas" and opportunity to create a very unique setting for the day. We roughly followed a natural country themed design and planned the reception décor around this concept. We fashioned everything by hand ourselves during the months prior to the wedding. This involved lengthy sewing machine sessions, a few months of glass jar collecting and a lot of time cutting out and finishing the fabric creations! Table runners were crafted from green and white gingham fabric by Laura Ashley. Nearly 35 metres of bunting were strung together from floral, check and spotted fabrics which we gradually built up from a number of online retailers.

Cute card covers for the favours were cut and printed to hold the Cornflower seeds packets in place. Off cuts from the bunting were used to make small fabric bows which were glued to the corner. Glass jars with raffia tied around the top provided the perfect flower vases. Matt went up to the Marlborough on the morning of the wedding with his Dad to set up the venue. With the help of Darryl, Rachel, Matthew and everyone at the Pub, all of the décor was brought together ready for the reception.

I decided to personally arrange my own bouquet and all flowers for the day. This was quite a considerable undertaking although we were delighted with the results. We used a local supplier to order the flowers a week beforehand. We opted for White Stocks, Cassablanca Aster, Pink Lisianthus, Sweet Avalanche and Belle Roses, Lilac Statice, Cornflowers, Ruscus and Eucalyptus. The bouquet flowers were wound with natural raffia around the stems. We placed the table flowers in glass jam jars with raffia tied around the top.

We enjoyed selecting the music and readings for the ceremony which produced something very unique and special for us. We particularly enjoyed listening to our friends and families' readings for which we selected an excerpt from The Beaux' Stratagem, Buddy Holly's True Love Ways and Bring me Sunshine made famous by Morecambe and Wise.

We formed a number of different online music playlists which we played during the drinks reception, meal and evening. A friend helped to create a special 'Wedding Pub Quiz' and we enjoyed giving out some quirky gifts to the prize winners.

After the ceremony, we planned champagne and canapés on the grounds at the Orleans House Gallery. The staff put us in touch with the LA Waiters who provided an amazing level of service. We sourced champagne in bulk from 31Dover and used Waitrose's glass hire service. The canapés were by Stand By Chef Catering and were of a high quality. The fact that that one of the canapés featured in the Alan Patridge film definitely sealed the deal for us!

Our champagne and canapés would not have been complete without the Bacon and Scampi Fries which we had ordered in bulk beforehand (my favourite ever crisps!). For the wedding reception, the Marlborough helped us to create a bespoke food and drink plan.

Upon arrival, the team had prepared jugs of summer cup and beers chilled in large metal buckets on the decking. For the menu, we chose a ham hock starter followed by either sea bass or roast beef and ended with a pear and almond tart.

Rather than a more traditional wedding cake we asked our family and friends to bake a selection of homemade cakes and brownies. To add a special touch, we made individual labels detailing the type of cake and the name of the baker.

The stationery was very important to us and so we spent some time to personally create digital designs and produce some unique materials ourselves. As novice designers, this was a little troublesome at times although we were delighted with the end products. We used a local printing supplier to run professional prints of the invites, information cards, favours and the Order of the Day.

Our photographer, Tarah Coonan, was absolutely fantastic on the day. We selected Tarah as we were immediately impressed with the quality and style of the photography. We are delighted with the photos from the day and cannot recommend Tarah highly enough.

One of the day's special moments was being able to take a few minutes away together as a couple to reflect on the day. I would recommend that all couples ensure that they have included time in their plans to take time out to catch your breath and appreciate each other's company. We were able to pop around the corner to a favourite spot on Richmond Hill to have some pictures on the meadow together at dusk.
