A Carnival Extravaganza

A Carnival Extravaganza

What an awesome wedding we have in store for you today! We are featuring the wedding of Jacques and Jeanne who got married on the 21 of March 2014. This was no ordinary wedding and Jeanne created a wonderland for herself and her husband. The theme of the wedding was carnival, not a theme usually associated with weddings, but Jeanne sure showed that it is more than possible! The best photographer for the job was the irreplaceable Stella Uys, from Stella Uys Photography. This spectacular woman never seize to produce excellent work and we always love to share her work, not only because we love her, but her work is magnificent. The wedding was held at Imperfect Perfection just outside of Pretoria, a very popular and unique venue. The decor and flowers were done by Love & Grace and Jeanne's dress was from Amante Bridalwear.

I Propose | Elaborate on how the two of you met or on how the proposal went down.

During 2010 I started my articles at the same firm that Jacques was doing his. From day one we had this love hate relationship that lead to an awesome friendship and that eventually developed into a wonderful relationship. We might have enjoyed the 2010 World Cup a little too much, however that's where everything started!

Jacques decided to pop the big question on an elephant safari. Not only was I surrounded by my favorite animals, one of the younger elephants brought me a basket holding the ring...running towards me ears flapping and trunk swinging! This must have been one of the best experiences of my life...both frightening and breathtaking all at the same time!

Bride & Prejudice | Express some memorable experiences you had during the planning.

Planning a wedding was the closest I've ever been to killing someone! However, nothing gets to that feeling when you open your first beer on your wedding day, realizing what an amazing piece of art you have created...a piece of art that could only have come together with two great minds working together as one.

My Fair Wedding | Describe an event that you feel was unique or even funny.

Needless to say we aimed to break every rule and tradition in the Rule Book of Planning a Wedding...

After weeks of brainstorming with numerous "liquid inspiration" we decided to ditch the cake as well and to hit a piñata instead (as if the multicolor carnival theme wasn't enough).

This brings me to the funniest event of the evening...

As we entered the hall, we opened the dance floor, where after the Madagascar circus theme song started to play as the piñata was lowered from the roof. We were both given a giant candy cane to hit the piñata with. You can just imagine the vibe in that hall when the piñata was lying in millions of pieces and the floor covered with sweets!!! However, one of the guests thought it would be fun to blindfold Jacques and tell him to hit the piñata one last time...guess where the bride was standing...right in front of him!!! So yeah, needless to say I got one hell of a shot on my head in front of all our guests! At least I have more than enough witnesses, however I probably only had myself to blame seeing that I fed my guests enough sweets to last them a decade.

Don't Tell The Bride | Reveal something that happened behind the scenes.

Jacques and his best men had to pick up the piñata on the day of the wedding. When it was handed to them it looked like a, and I quote, voodoo doll. Seeing that hitting the piñata symbolized the cutting of the cake they didn't have much of a choice than to make a plan!

No More Wedding Woes | Share your wedding advice for future brides.

I always wanted a simple wedding, no twirls and frills and diamante...I wanted my guests to eat a lot and drink a lot...I wanted my guests to laugh and play...I wanted them to have the best night of their lives! Consequently, I went back and forth and back and forth in my mind where eventually I was able to create a space where all that was possible.

Although I have considered thousands of possibilities, in the end I got to go to a Carnival on my wedding day...OUR Carnival!

My advice would be to keep it simple, keep it you, only have people there that would appreciate that "you", be a kid and have fun, and laugh, never stop laughing!
