Short Wedding Dresses

On your wedding day you should feel your prettiest. And for some of you, that means showing off your gorgeous gams! Whether you want to go with a more conservative just-above-the-knee or a micro-mini, a short dress is a fun way to shake things up on your big day. It's also perfect to wear for more casual weddings, or for a quick trip to the courthouse (just because you are going low-key, doesn't mean you shouldn't do it in a great dress). And if you are a retro gal, your dream wedding might just involve a short lace-crocheted dress, a bouquet brimming with daisies, and a blusher veil.

Another reason that many women choose to go short is that they don't want a "bridal" dress. Some women dream of a fluffy princess gown and tiaras aplenty, and others, not so much. I love the two sleek options shown here (above, right and below) because while they are still white, they can be worn again. Some might think they look a bit austere for a wedding, but I think Olivia Pope would totally rock that gorgeous coat (below) on her wedding day.

Some of these hemlines are not for the meek. Those who want to go way short can avoid looking like an extra in a Robert Palmer video by wearing neutral makeup, nude shoes, and loose hair. Remember, if you go mini, you don't have to worry about creating a statement with anything else.

Although many of these short dresses are shown with stilettos, most of them would be just as terrific if paired with something lower. For example, wouldn't this sweet cap-sleeved number (below, right) look great with a pair of gold flats?
