Cotton candy skies in Kongsberg, a town veined by cascading rapids and surrounded by dense green forests. Kongsberg's story started in 1623, when two children and an ox discovered silver in the Numedal Valley — less than a year later, the town was founded, and briefly became the second-largest city in Norway. Though no mines remain, Kongsberg is now home to the national mint and one of Norway’s best jazz festivals. (
