1000 origami cranes

Written by: louise

Today's wedding story is super sweet! In Japanese culture 1000 origami cranes are a symbol for good luck, health, wisdom & trust, so to honour their wedding vows bride Julia and her groom Karsten set a goal of making 1000 perfectly folded paper cranes to decorate their day!

It's always a pleasure to share the work of German photographer Jennifer Hejna, who captured their day beautifully!

While Julia and her mum made 100′s of cranes, they asked their guests to get involved too - providing simple folding instructions along with their invites and asking guests to bring them along! Their wonderful guests obliged, not only bringing cranes to add to the décor, but adding them to gifts and cards too!

Cranes featured everywhere - from the place settings to table plan, hung from the candelabra and draped along the tables.

All this pretty was set against an industrial venue, with orange details providing pops of colour - from pots of chilli jam as favours to yellow-centred daisy arrangements, to slices of orange in the water....

... and even in the bride and groom's outfits. Julia carried a Spring posy of wildflowers with ranunculus, roses and pansies, adding a whimsical twist to her look and a matching boutonniere for Karsten!

They celebrated with family and friends at a local venue renowned for it's fairtrade, organic food, even treating their guests to steaks from their own herd.

As the evening ended, the couple took to the dancefloor with their guests waving sparklers as they danced to Foo Fighters ' This Will be Our Year'.
