Postponing your wedding is a difficult kind of heartbreak.⁠ ⁠ There are “more serious” issues in the world, of course, but something about moving a day, a ritual, a rite of passage that you’ve looked so much forward to is a different kind of pain.⁠ ⁠ There’s sadness & disappointment, of course, anger, of course, but there are other emotions that may come into play. Embarrassment & shame (I have to contact every one and we were caught up in this and our dreams couldn’t go ahead, everyone has to change their plans because of us, this is important to us), frustration (why us? Why do we have to make the plans again? Why couldn’t we have been like others and not had this happen?), loss and questioning (what does this mean for my future? Does this mean it isn’t right? What happens now?)⁠ ⁠ Consider this a warm hug to tell you it’s all okay. That there is legitimacy to the gut-wrenching emotions and tears you’re feeling. That you can feel broken right now.⁠ ⁠ I’m not going to say that this hiccup doesn’t matter, because it really does. But what I am going to say is that as much as it really, utterly sucks, this is just one moment in your life together. Every emotion you are feeling is just one of the stages of grief you need to work through, to come out the other side.⁠ ⁠ It doesn’t define who you are and your life together. And you will come out the other side.
