Justine and Darcy wanted a relaxed and fun atmosphere for their wedding. They decided to whisk their friends and family away on an enchanting mini escape to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The couple tied the knot in a romantic ceremony with a woodland party to follow!

F R O M THE B R I D E

We first met...

We met through a high school friend but we were friends for a few years before we realised there was something more between us.

We knew it was love...

I can't exactly remember when it was 'love' but it wasn't long after we met. We lived 6 hours from each other at the time so for us to commit to such a long distance relationship I knew it must have been special.

The proposal...

We got engaged on March 19 th 2015 at Stradbroke Island. It's one of our favourite places to holiday.

Our wedding photographer...

We chose Quince and Mulberry Studios for our photos. Kate's photos are beautiful as she captured our day perfectly. She was easy to work with, Her style is soft and natural, she was very unobtrusive, and seemed to be enjoying herself also as she was moving around through the crowd choosing the images to capture. Her photos are real, nothing overly posed and stiff, and we loved them. Kate also included an engagement shoot as part of the deal, and we were very happy with those photos. After our first meeting we knew we had made the right choice, Kate is a genuinely lovely person and that made us feel very comfortable to be working with her.

Our dream wedding...

I didn't know where to start! I was so overwhelmed at the beginning. We wanted a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Nothing over the top, we wanted it to be 'us' as a couple, not something we wouldn't normally enjoy. I guess if I had to give it a theme I would maybe say 'Whimsical and Romantic'.

Ceremony location...

After looking around at several different venues we chose to have the ceremony in the gardens at Montville Country Cabins.

Reception venue...

The reception was held in a beautiful setting beside a large lake also at Montville Country Cabins. The venue was large enough to cater for the whole event, with plenty of accommodation as well.

Pre-wedding celebrations...

We had a dinner the night before, and invited any of our guests who were around to join us. Knowing how crazy our wedding day was going to be we thought this would be a good way to take some pressure off trying to talk to everyone at the reception!

The bridal party...

We had two of each. My bridesmaids were my sister and a close friend of mine. Darcy's groomsmen were two of his closest mates

The bridesmaids wore...

Dresses from "Show Me Your Mumu". They were simple but elegant and the colour suited both bridesmaids very well.

The groom and groomsmen wore...

All the boys wore the same outfits. They each had a navy suit, white shirt and brown shoes from Tarocash.

The dress...

It was nothing like I thought I would wear! It was strapless and very detailed. It was the first one I didn't want to take off when I was trying dresses on, so I thought that must have been a good sign. It was from a little shop in Alexandra Headland on the Sunshine Coast, I think it has since closed though. The dress was 'Wtoo' by Watters.

Wedding flowers...

The florist actually picked most of them, I definitely wanted roses and greenery but with a bit more texture than just that so I trusted her judgement, and was really pleased with them.

Reception décor...

We chose Montville Yurts for the structures, which are beautiful in their own right so they didn't need much decorating and we just added lots of fairy lights! The table flowers were pastel coloured (pink, cream and mauve)roses and lots of "Baby's Breath" that we got from a wholesaler. We added fern leaves and arranged them ourselves in clear jars. I made up my own mercury decorated glasses for candleholders.

We chose Willowbud Wedding Flowers on the Sunshine Coast for the Bouquets, Buttonholes and Corsages, Jabula Roses for the table roses, and Tome at Maroochydore for the cake.

On the menu...

We had a sit down meal with share platters on the tables cooked in a South American barbecue style. After traveling around the world we fell in love with the South American food and culture so we thought why not incorporate it. This worked with our plan to keep it casual. Lots of salads, breads and meats for everyone to help themselves.

Bomboniere...

Seeing as we were supplying all our own drinks for our bar we decided to get personalised stubby holders made for everyone to use and keep

Memorable moments...

It was all amazing. Walking hand in hand back up the aisle with my new husband, being showered with rose petals which I didn't know my mother had bought and distributed to all the guests while we were busy signing the register, was definitely one of my favourite moments, such a happy memory.

Wedding soundtrack...

Aisle - Angus and Julia Stone 'The Wedding Song' played and sung beautifully by my lovely sister-in-law Alesa Lajana; Signing - Priscilla Ahn 'Dream'; Exit ceremony - Jack Johnson 'Better Together'; Enter reception - Hilltop Hoods 'Won't Let You Down'; First dance - Jason Mraz 'I Won't Give Up'; Father Daughter Dance- Stevie Wonder 'Isn't She Lovely'

The honeymoon...

We sort of had two honeymoons! We went to Vanuatu for a week after we got married then to Canada in December/January for lots of fun in the snow.

Future plans...

We have so many plans but at the same time we both like to take things as they come. Hopefully children won't be too far down the track. Traveling more is high on our list of things to do and we would love to do that as a family.

In 40 years you hope to...

40 years is a long time with so many adventures to be had with all our family and friends.

The engagement...

Celebrate and enjoy it, you are only in this exciting stage in your life for a short amount of time, it's pretty special.

Planning...

Do what you want and makes you happy. Don't get caught up in how everything 'should' be done. It's your day.

On the day...

Relax! Have fun! Don't sweat the small things it will be the best day of your life.
