The Best Wedding Updos
The Best Wedding Updos

Hairstylist Tony Masciangelo, co-owner of Toronto's Alcorn Hair, knows updos. "Weddings are, of course, a big part of what I do as a stylist," Masciangelo says. "In my career I have worked with hundreds of brides - too many to count - and my role is always to make the bride feel her most beautiful. In this era of social media and online connections, I receive many messages from past brides telling me how I played such an important role in their day and their wedding memories."
Masciangelo says the best wedding updos are classic and simple. "The updos I favour are unfussy, beautiful and clean. Less is definitely more when it comes to wedding hair."
Here are three of Masciangel0's favourite updo styles to create a runway-ready, red-carpet-worthy wedding day look.

- The Ponytail
This is a classic and clean option for wearing hair up. When it comes to putting a wedding spin on this traditional style, the ponytail needs to be beautifully executed. "I love a high pony that is extremely shiny and beautifully finished. The pony can also form the basis of a few other updo options including a gorgeous chignon, topknot or a loose and low bun," Masciangelo explains.

- The French Roll
Masciangelo says this updo instantly creates effortless elegance and high fashion drama. This style requires a fine styling balance, distributing hair evenly through the top, middle and bottom of the head. Though it looks easy to create, it is a challenging one and requires a stylist with a great eye, experience and patience.

- The Free-Form Updo
The beauty of this style is that there are no rules! Masciangelo says this where your relationship with your stylist becomes key as this will be a freehand design based on collaboration between you and your stylist. Something to keep in mind is having a style with texture to create interesting shapes. It's all about keeping the hair looking organic and romantic, creating a style that suits you and your dress.
