10 Ways to Make Life Lovely - The September One

10 Ways to Make Life Lovely - The September One

via

Good afternoon, you gorgeous lot, and happy September! Can you believe we're here already?! There's a little chill in the air today and for the first time in months (with great sadness) I'm not wearing my denim cut-offs! While Summer is hands down my favourite season, Autumn comes in at a close second. While we're not quite there yet, there's a few little signs creeping back into my habits and routine that are some definite 'Fall Favourites'!

So, today we've got some fab beauty tips to help you extend that post-summer glow, our all-time favourite Autumn drink is back on the shelves, we've got some transitional denim jackets to help keep the evening chill off and the must-have Autumn haircut.

But first, we've been spending some cosier nights in recently with our yoga mats and this lovely lady...

Meet Adriene.

Based in Austin, Texas, Adriene is co-founder of 'Find What Fees Good', an online library Yoga and Yoga lifestyle tools to encourage you to be authentic, do your best and find what feels good.

Sounds good, right?!

Well, she also has an amazing YouTube channel, Yoga With Adriene, inspiring Yogi's of all shapes and sizes to connect to their body daily and, needless to say, myself, my beau, his work colleagues, my friends have all become a little hooked!

Adriene approaches health and wellness with a playfulness and sense of humour that gets everyone on the mat and feeling at ease.

So, whether you're looking for an energising morning flow, a post-run practice or something super cosy right before bed, Adriene's got you covered!

That bedtime routine though, I don't know where I'd be without it!

That's right, as far as interior design goes right now, we've well and truly entered the Reign of the Rattan!

From rattan (or wicker) style chairs, vintage 70s looking magazine racks, or bed frames even; rattan is everywhere and I for one, can't get enough!

My current fave, which it'd seem the Pinterest millions are totally on board with, is the Rattan lampshade. Go big, go for multiples and pair with an otherwise clean-cut palette.

In. Love.

I have, and adore, this shade from IKEA, but I'm totally in the market for this one and this one too!

Now, y'all probably know by now that I turned vegan at the start of the year, but just recently I've been attempting to up my daily proportion of raw foods.

(I could go on for hours about the benefits of this for your body, but I'll spare you that!!)

However, I just had to tell you guys about this little recipe I discovered for raw granola, otherwise known as Grawnola or Rawnola. As a friend recently pointed out to me, it's kinda like muesli but, in my opinion, way better!

I use a basic 4 ingredient mix, simply pop the following into a bowl in the proportions you'd like:

  • Oats
  • Rehydrated chopped dates (I just soak mine in boiling water for 30 mins to an hour)
  • Coconut flakes (or desiccated works just fine too)
  • A drizzle of maple syrup

And stir! No cooking, no blitzing in the food processor, just a simple, easy oat mix! Add your preferred milk alternative, or serve up with some banana 'nice-cream' and you're good to go! Great for rushed mornings!

I mean, that's just how I do my Grawnola, but check out the recipe above, she adds cinnamon which just sounds heavenly as we head into Autumn!

Ok so this beauty tip, this is EVERYTHING!

This is the best little trick I've heard in a long time and it's so simple!

So you know the good old beauty sponge everyone's been recommending for blending out concealer since this time last year (if not before)?! Well, it'd seem said sponge has many other uses!

When the makeup goddess that is Jaclyn Hill claimed that pouncing her damp beauty sponge all over her foundation after having applied it with a brush was her top foundation smoothing/blending tip, of course, your girl sat up and listened and then tested it for the next month! And I've gotta say, it truly makes a difference! Check out what she has to say in the tutorial below at 7:50 mins and 15:05 mins!

And then to add to the beauty sponge's talents, Jaclyn then revealed another (much more controversial) tip in her recent Back to School Tutorial (at 7:40 mins): blend out a powder highlight with a damp beauty sponge...

Say whaaaaa?!

I know right?! It goes against everything you've ever known to touch a powdered face with a damp sponge, but you guys... It works! For a truly dewy post-summer glow, this is everything!!

Seriously though, I do not apply by highlight without a damp sponge any more! I have seen MUA's apply the highlighter straight from the pan with a damp sponge and skip using a brush completely, but for the sleekest dewy look, I've found applying with a brush and then blending with the damp sponge to be most effective!

Is this so cliché I can't believe I'm even saying it?

Yes.

For sheer love of the drink am I gonna say it anyway?

Yes!

It might be a little basic (the meme below totally cracked me up) but, you guys! Starbucks just brought back the Pumpkin Spice Latte and now it finally feels ok that September is here already!

I don't see any cute Autumn cups this year yet, but who cares! Jump on the #PSL band-wagon and get cosy!

This hairstyle has been a festival favourite with the stars this summer and it seems it's gonna be the go-to chop as we head into Autumn!

I don't know what it is about Autumn that always makes be want a fringe?! Who knows, but the feeling returns year upon year!

For 2016, the Autumnal chop is much shaggier than last year. Still complete with fringe and the favourite 'Lob' length, but the fringe has this grown-out feel, leaving it falling in or to the side of your eyes.

It's a nod to Bardot and we freakin' love it!

I just love the texture layers throughout, it's so carefree!

Another trend that we just can't be without this September is the oversized denim jacket.

It's cosy, it's pretty much a neutral as far as I'm concerned, and it can be thrown on over pretty much anything the moment that Autumn chill begins to creep in.

We love ours about three sizes to big (a vintage men's jacket is preferable!) and nonchalantly slung over the shoulders.

It's a classic, reworked, and probably the only jacket we're gonna wear for the next month (maybe even two!)

A cult favourite, the Pixie Glow Tonic retails at £18 from Cult beauty and claims to be a miracle worker:

Instantly refreshing, Pixi's gorgeous glow-giver brightens, tones and conditions your skin after cleansing. Enriched with glycolic acid - a natural derivative of sugar cane, and member of the alpha-hydroxy acid family - this gentle, exfoliating formula dissolves the bonds binding dulling dead cells to skin's surface, to reveal the 'new' healthy skin cells underneath. Aloe then soothes and hydrates while oxygenating ginseng promotes cell health and skin vibrancy; witch hazel firms and tones, while horse chestnut boosts blood flow, to grant your complexion a naturally fresh and dewy radiance.

With that all important Glycolic Acid, the Glow Tonic will help you maintain that summer glow for months to come! Oh, and look out for all its other incredibly handy uses too!

Wonder product. We are all about that gentle chemical exfoliator over a physical scrub!

It's back and it's just as wonderful as ever!

Whether you're a keen baker or not, the Great British Bake Off has something to offer everyone, including a good laugh!

This series seems to be innuendo central, and, I don't know about you guys, but I can't help but giggle along with the contestants.

I mean, I couldn't help but pull this exact face when Mel asked contestant Rav, "Do you need a pair of warm hands? Either on your bag or on you?"

Oh, Paul! That's our Wednesday nights sorted for the foreseeable future!

And of course, it wouldn't be a 10 Ways without throwing in a little new music for you to lend your ear to this afternoon.

In late August, Frank Ocean released a new album, Blond, amidst a wave of controversy. Nevertheless, the album speaks through this cloud of chatter to reveal lush atmospheric tracks, largely beatless and somewhat abstract, with choruses by the Beatles and the Carpenters being stripped of their words and worked into new songs. Ocean continues to create a powerful sense of a veiled introvert, and unlikely intimacy.

I completely agree with the Guardian's review in that this album is a lesson in caring less about the circumstances of an album's release and more about the music itself. Hopefully Ocean's latest journey in cerebral, non-macho, boundary-free R&B will be heard long after the fuss around its release has died down.

Just beautiful! Arguably a more challenging listen at times, but Blond is a great album for your down time.
And with that, my loves, we wish you an awesomely chilled weekend and we'll see you on the flip side!
