Jenny and Glen's New Hampshire Backyard wedding

Jenny and Glen's New Hampshire Backyard wedding

Jenny and Glen's backyard wedding at Moffatt Ladd House is vintage perfection. It's definitely to be expected from the couple who happen to own the lovely vintage rental company Port + Palm Co. (check out their fab work!) They sourced all of their own rentals and enlisted Little Flower Cottage to incorporate pink peonies in all the right places like colorful floral arrangements, an artful ceremony arbor and beautiful bouquets. Jenny even more her grandmother's lace wedding dress! Lucky for us, Lauren Louise Photography was there with camera in hand to capture all the joyful, intimate moments on the lovely New Hampshire day.

What made the wedding special and unique?

We were able to escape. We both grew up in Florida (born and raised) but when my mom and stepdad moved to New Hampshire about a year before we got engaged I knew I wanted to get married there. There is something magical about escaping the city where you live, work, and play, to go and celebrate such an important day with your favorite people.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

So I found my gown in a suitcase in my grandma's closet. On a whim one night, while I was eating dinner with my family I asked my grandma if she still had her wedding dress. She pulled out a mint green Samsonite and there it was in perfect condition, not one yellowed spot from age or one snag. I asked if I could try it on and shimmied my way into it. It was a little snug and I thought I was either going to need to get it altered or have a rib removed, but I guess I stretched it out enough to get it to fit perfectly and zip right up without any alternations on my wedding day. For the reception I changed into a BHLDN dress that was basically a shorter version of my grandmother's dress because I didn't want to drop food on it or rip a seam on the dance floor. It meant the world to me to wear her dress, my grandfather had just recently passed away before I met my husband and it was a nice way to feel like he was still involved and present.

What were some touches added to make it personal?

We own a vintage rental company, so we sourced all of the vintage flower vessels, candle holders, glassware, plates, and furniture pictured. My stepdad also hand drew a map of the area for our welcome bags and we had a friend custom design a monogram for our stationery.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

Seriously, everything. I was on such a wedding high the whole night. But one of the best moments happened when it came time to dance and party. We moved the evening into a small barn on site. "I Will Wait" by Mumford and Sons started playing at one point and everyone was stomping and swinging around the dance floor, switching dancing partners, and singing at the top of their lungs. Our photographer got an iPhone video of it all and I cry every time I watch it.

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

We met in college, at FAU. We were both Sociology students and had class together. We both say it was as close to love at first sight as you can get. I thought he was cute and figured he'd never notice me since I sat near the back and typically kept to myself. He actually noticed me as soon as I noticed him, but we never spoke. I was at a friend's house party one night and met one of Glen's teammates from the baseball team and awkwardly told him that I thought Glen was cute. Next thing you know I'm reading a Facebook message from Glen, we end up dating each other, and that teammate ends up being one of his groomsmen. We got engaged after lunch at my favorite restaurant on New Year's Eve and we were able to celebrate with our families and our friends that night - with lots and lots of champagne.
