Always one to reinvent bridal fashion, Houghton designer Katharine Polk once again catapulted contemporary and ultramodern styles into the spotlight. Inspired by the various shapes and effects of layering, Polk's 2017 spring collection blends textures and fabrics to bring to life her boho chic aesthetic.

Ruffles and tiered skirts in silk, lace, and chiffon were a mainstay of Polk's designs, giving silhouettes an element of youthfulness and edge without sacrificing the innate femininity and modern sophistication of the collection. Highlighting the designer's penchant for unconventional twists were an assortment of lace body suits overlaid with delicate fabrics for the perfect multidimensional, textured look. Cut-outs and sheer layering also played to the spring season, elevating Polk's bridal pieces from traditional and demure to daring and sexy. A mixture of plunging necklines, high-collars, and off-the-shoulder styles added to the line's eclectic nature, and featured metallic floral-embellished jewellery, feather accents, iridescent sequins, and belted waists. Looks reflected a retro aesthetic with designs boasting wide-legged bell bottoms and bell-shaped sleeves, alongside 90's grunge-inspired fishnet stockings, patent leather chokers, and chunky platform heels. Fashion-forward brides looking for colours beyond traditional white and ivory will have a range of shades from which to choose, with several gowns, body suits, and rompers fashioned in blush, dove grey, silver, and black.

To match her unique designs, Polk also unveiled her collection in a one-of-kind showcase, which allowed attending brides to pre-order select looks and accessories seen on the runway. This emerging "shop-the-runway" format is unconventional territory for the bridal fashion world but, if Polk's designs are any indication, this designer is definitely not afraid to put a fresh twist on tradition.
