Gorgeous Destination Wedding in Bali

Gorgeous Destination Wedding in Bali

via

We hope you guys have been having a fabulous long weekend so far?

And to make it even brighter, we've got the most gorgeous wedding to share today.

Jade & Mitch are an Aussie couple who love to travel, so it was a no-brainer that their wedding would be a destination one.

And when the only two things on your wishlist are heat and the ocean, a beachside setting in Bali was the perfect choice.

Their wedding was an elegant garden celebration with white blooms, lots of greenery, thoughtful DIY touches, and one of the most magical overhead light instillations we've seen in a long time.

Jade was stunning in a custom made gown, Mitch looked smart by the sea in a bright blue suit, and the bridesmaids did oceanside glamour perfectly, with rose gold crop top dresses.

But alongside the incredible setting, the creative decor and the gorgeous style, my favourite detail about this wedding has to be this beaming couple, who didn't let the smiles leave their faces from the beginning of the day, 'til the end of the night.

And we just love that they chose the awesome Terralogical Photography to capture all the candid vibes, romantic moments, and big laughs.

You guys are going to love this wedding!

Our Love Story

We met through a mutual friend at a music festival in February 2011. It was only by pure luck that I was convinced to come and purchased a ticket the day before the show. Mitch was flying to Sydney to visit this friend and we all went in together. We quickly discovered our love for travel, that was my first attraction to him. Before we even officially got together we started planning a three month around the world holiday. I thank my lucky stars that I purchased that ticket. The proposal was the biggest surprise of my life. I am usually switched on with these things. A brief on us. Mitch is originally from the Sunshine Coast and I am from Sydney. We fly between our two families through out the year, so when we flew up to the Sunshine Coast for a quick visit there was nothing that stood out. February 20th 2014, Mitch asked me if I would like to get up early to go whale watching and then he would go for a surf at Noosa Head. Silly me did not second guess, that it actually wasn't whale season. He loves the beach and surf so much it was nothing new that it was so early, I knew the waves are always the best at that hour. We walked up to the peak watching the sunrise. It must of been the longest 10 minutes of Mitch's life as I semi-joked about the lack of whales. There were surfers below catching waves and paddling around. It was all synced up because at 6:45am Mitch dropped to his knee while the boys below flipped their surfboards to reveal "Jade will u marry me?"

Our Wedding

When deciding on a location for our wedding Mitch and I asked each other, "What is your number one thing for the big day?" Mitch answered, "To be starring out at the ocean", mine was "to be tropical warm". Being avid travelers made the decision to go overseas easy, to make it even easier for all involved Bali seemed like the perfect choice for a wedding. The dream was to be walking on the sand at sunset as Mr and Mrs. I really tried to incorporate both our personalities in the decoration, I wanted it to reflect him as much as me. Doing this made Mitch really excited about every aspect of the wedding down to the invites and the wedding favors. We were going with a natural décor. Green and white flower, bare wooden tables, gold Tiffany chairs, industrial lights to create ambient light. The wedding was so beautiful it didn't need much at all.

The Attire

I was fortunate enough to have a wonderful dressmaker named Rosa based in Kogarah, Sydney make my wedding dress. She knows fabric like an extension of her arm. I went to her with a series of ideas and images, all with lace beautifully cut out and fitted to the body. Rosa was able to explain to me how my design would sit and what fabrics I had to use to make it work. I also had this beautiful detachable train with feathers sewn on the base. The dress was the foundation of inspirations I had in my wedding decor. My flower girl dress was purchased from a dressmaker on Etsy, I loved the way it tied together at the back. I loved that about the dress from day one. Blue, Mitch loves the colour blue. He knew what he wanted to wear before he even proposed. He chose to wear a vest and pants to keep it formal and not overheat in the weather. The groomsmen were all wearing the same colour suit, the minor thing that made Mitch's suit unique was he had a lapel on his vest, which made him feel a bit special. We went with charcoal buttons to make the colour blue look more modern rather then a country feel. The accessories were tan shoes and belt. His tie was a dark navy blue with whit dots. Knowing that the groomsmen's suits were going to be a sky blue it was choosing a colour for the bridesmaids that would compliment the coastal theme. I loved the rose sequin but it was too expensive and heavy to make a full dress out of. I decided a top made of gold sequin and a neutral skirt would be fun and elegant for Bali. The girls were able to choose the gap they were comfortable with between the top and skirt. I went with a nude wedge to make them comfortable and easy to walk on grass. The drop earrings were this amazing cream and blue stone, they really look beautiful standing next to the groomsmen. Since all the girls had such different hair I decided to tie them all together with a modern braid theme.

The Ceremony

We wrote our own vows for the ceremony. Also a very close friend did a small reading for us too... "Oh, what a love it was, utterly free, unique, like nothing else on earth! Their thoughts were like other people's songs. They loved each other, not driven by necessity, by the 'blaze of passion' often falsely ascribed to love. They loved each other because everything around them willed it, the trees and the clouds and the sky over their heads and the earth under their feet. Perhaps their surrounding world, the strangers they met in the street, the wide expanses they saw on their walks, the rooms in which they lived or met, took more delight in their love than they themselves did."

Advice for Other Couples

As soon as you find something you love just order it or start to make it. Then you can tick it off your list. The day will come up faster then you blink an eye. If you love it, you wont change your mind. This concept will work with the budget as well, giving yourself time to find the most cost effective option will help. Remember to incorporate him into the big day, try to find little things that inspire him, I used the colour blue and anchor artwork in subtle ways in my décor and I could see my husband just loved it!

The Photography

They were like ninjas capturing such beautiful moments without you being aware they were even there, which is a hard thing to do. Mitch and I didn't want any posed images, looking at what we have is perfectly captured.

The Venue

We looked at so many venues to host our big day. This one brought a smile to our face. It ticked all the boxes. Modern, easy to access bathrooms (which seems strange but with other venues, guests had to go into the bedrooms, here they did not). It was in a popular area to hotels. The photos don't do this venue justice, it was a grand open space.

The Decor & Details

I made my name cards, they were written on large white feathers, Well_Lettered wrote each of the names and I finished off each one by painting the tips in gold paint. I then painted the base of a spotted pheasant feather and glued it on. The guests took them home which was pretty special. We decided to go with white leather luggage tags for the favours, with the message "Not all roads are meant to be traveled alone" in gold embossed on them. They had a custom disc attached with blue twine with a thank you message. Thought it was appropriate for the guests traveling the distance to see us. I made the discs that went on my tags. I designed my menus which Shhh my Darling painted for me. She also made my invites, so they tied in with the same style. It was an artwork of all the countries our guests were flying in from around the world, to celebrate the wedding in Bali. My mother-in-law made my garter that I wore to marry her son. It was just beautiful. My bridal table was everything I wished for. The hydrangea runner went all the way to the floor on either side. It was just beautiful. We were very blessed to have a friend create a beautiful carved surfboard for our guests to sign. My friend was very talented and signed 'Just Married' on one side.

The Flowers

I loved the hydrangea flowers. Heliconia, our florist, were able to create a table runner that went the length of the bridal table and run to the floor either side. My bouquets were made in the same flower, mine was white and my bridesmaids were green like the table runner. The table runners on the guests' tables were industrial lights sitting in wooden blocks. One per table, and vases of green hydrangea in between.

The Music

The music selected was important to us. We thought about important moments in our lives and incorporated them into key moments. Key songs for the wedding day: Mitch walking to the alter: Love me like you do - Boyce Avenue Walking down the Aisle: Higher Love - James Vincent Mc Morrow After the ceremony: The First Time - Michael Castro Introducing Mr and Mrs: Best Day of my Life - American Authors (Mitch sung this song to me the day he proposed) Garter Toss: The Weeknd - Can't Feel My Face Bouquet Toss: Feeling Good - Avicii ft Audra Mae Father Daughter Dance: Best Part of Me - Landon Austin First Dance: Acoustic version of Feel so Close - by Calvin Harris sung by my younger sister. Cake Cutting: The Days - by Avicii (during this song we had large glow balloons come out for a wish release.) The DJ was amazing! He played dance music through out the night, even my 83-year-old grandma was up dancing.

The Refreshments

After the wedding day I now know why Bali Catering Company have the best reputation for weddings. We went with the following for our menu:

  • Balinese Spiced Roasted Fish in Banana Leaf
  • Oriental Flavored Duck Confit Cannelloni, Butternut Pumpkin Puree, Goat Cheese Espuma and Chives Oil

  • Beef Tenderloin, Asian Mushroom and Nori Dusted Potato Croquette, Bordelaise Sauce
  • Roasted Chicken Ballotine with Spinach, Mushroom, Saffron and Sage Jus
Our wedding cake, it was absolutely beautiful. Ixora Cakes made it perfectly to my vision. The flavors were w hite chocolate mud and raspberry. We had an open bar, with free flowing drinks for seven hours.

Favourite Moments

During the speeches, all my bridesmaids surprised me by standing up to share stories of our friendship, it was finished with my sister singing 'All of Me' by John Legend. I don't think there was a dry eye in the crowd. I wasn't allowed to have floating lanterns in case they caught fire of a near by roof. Which I would not want at all, so I came up with the idea to have glow balloons. I had large 30cm diameter round white balloons. I purchased tiny LED lights that could go inside before being blown up. They looked amazing! I had one per couple. They came out during the cutting of the cake.

The Honeymoon

We spent the week after the wedding in Bali with all our family and friends. It was wonderful to have that extra time to celebrate the big day. We then flew to India for a 15 day private tour organized by On the Go Tours. It was such an experience to go somewhere that was just as alive and on the go as the time we had in Bali with 100 guests. We then flew to the Maldives for seven days. So we had crazy fun times, an adventure together and finished it off with relaxation in paradise. My husband and I are such avid travelers this journey suited us perfectly. I would highly recommend going somewhere adventurous after the wedding if you have a destination wedding. Going somewhere relaxing straight away might have been an anticlimax, so by the time we went relaxing tropical, it was perfect!

Isn't it incredible? Those lights are just amazing, I can't get enough of Jade's custom dress, and I adore her hand-made place cards and favours - so thoughtful. (And how awesome does their honeymoon sound too - wow!)

Thanks so much to Terralogical Photography and of course, Jade & Mitch for sharing their unique destination wedding in Bali with us.
