Karen and Rob's Garden Party Festival with an Art Deco Twist....

Morning!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and enjoyed V Day.

We have an awesome wedding to share with you today, complete with a bouncy castle, quirky art deco styling and lots of smiles.

Karen and Rob said I do on the 1st August 2015 in a beautiful private farmers field in Dorset. With a love for the 1920's, they wanted to create a relaxed, fun garden party/festival atmosphere in the beautiful countryside but with an art deco twist. Karen wore two gorgeous vintage style dresses which were very glamorous and worked beautifully with the art deco theme. They were also the perfect compliment to her gorgeous red hair. All of their stationery was in the iconic art decor style and they also served Pimms in china tea cups to add a bit of decadence!

For the festival elements, they used drapes of white material and blue ribbon to create a ceremony tipi under a grand old oak tree which looked awesome and is such an easy yet effective idea for your ceremony backdrop. They also used the ribbon from the tipi as part of their Humanist ceremony to 'tie the knot' and bind their marriage. At their reception they set up garden party games and a bouncy castle to keep their guests entertained and they also had a 5 piece band in the evening.

Karen and Rob's wedding is a brilliant example on how you can fuse two completely different themes and create a day that is unique fun and personal to you. There are no rules when it comes to planning your wedding so why not celebrate all the things you love in one perfect day.

My ceremony dress was a heavily beaded strapless mermaid dress with a tulle skirt by Art Couture, bought from Love Bridal in Crystal Palace, South East London. My reception dress was a simple A-line lace dress with a nod to 1920s art deco styling also bought from Love Bridal. I also wore a short tulle veil with diamante edging.

For my shoes I wore wedges from Girls Of Elegance and custom dyed by Shoe Dyeing Direct

My jewellery was custom designed and included a necklace, engagement ring and wedding ring, bought from Number 10 jewellers in Brighton.

Our wedding was held at the beautiful Wedding Tree Field in South Perrott in Dorset. We had a humanist celebration led by the wonderful Patsy Wallace held under an oak tree on top of a hill overlooking the Dorset countryside, with our guests sat on straw bales. A jazz duo played the opening and closing music.

Down the hill, we had a large Indian marquee set up, with other gazebos surrounding it, all decorated with bunting and lanterns. There was a sweet station with a candy floss machine and jars of pick and mix, as well as garden games like giant jenga, skittles and giant connect four. And, of course, a bouncy castle.

We found our venue by asking a local farmer very nicely. He let us use the field for free, for which we were very grateful!

We had four cakes for our wedding cake: strawberry red velvet cake; carrot cake; blueberry & lavender cake; and gluten/lactose-free chocolate cherry & coconut cake. All of them were made by a friend.

We borrowed the huge Indian marquee from a friend which formed the centrepiece of our reception. The marquee and several gazebos were decorated with bunting and lanterns. The groom designed the photoboards of the bride and groom, the table plan and the table numbers. The latter were placed in picture frames on the centre of the table along with simple floral arrangements of locally grown flowers. We had Pimms served in cups and saucers during the reception, with waiting staff pouring from china teapots to add a little "speakeasy" atmosphere.

We had a fantastic five-piece band, The Chimes, booked through the Alive Network in the evening. They performed classic and modern rock/indie with amazing style at the reception.

Think very carefully about logistics and don't get too carried away before deciding to have a wedding in a field. We were quite naïve about the amount of work it would take to select, organise and co-ordinate the number of contractors and suppliers to made the wedding happen, and costs quickly racked up. We also relied heavily on our wonderful family and friends to help us with the set up - which took around a week. That said, it was a perfect day and all our planning and attention to detail paid off.
