Eye shadow is something that we makeup lovers can't get enough of. Between the color combinations, textures and cool tutorials, we couldn't be more intrigued. And while there are plenty of ways to apply eye shadow the right way, there are also a few ways we often get it wrong. Here are my top eyeshadow mistakes and how to fix them!

This is the most common mistake I see as a makeup artist. Blending is one of the most important things you can do when it comes to your makeup, especially eye shadow, as your eyes are a major focal point on your face. The key to not making this mistake? Use the appropriate brushes and blend, blend, blend until shadow looks even and polished and any color transition is seamless.

Color is always fun to experiment with when it comes to eye makeup, but severe or color combinations can sometimes be unflattering, even when you're trying to go for a more dramatic look. For instance, if you want to create a blue smoky eye, pick one tone of blue that will be used for the "smoke" and keep the rest of the eye in neutral tones, as opposed to three different shades of blue. Try a bone shadow as the base on the lid; a deep blue in the crease and along the upper and lower lash lines; and a champagne shadow to highlight the brow bone. This way you get your color fix, just not all at once!

Ladies, make sure your eye makeup is done before any other makeup is applied, so you can clean up anything that falls onto the skin before applying foundation. Making it the first step saves you the task of having to re-do your concealer. Take a small cotton swab, dip it in eye makeup remover and clean up the area under the eye until all traces of fallen shadow have disappeared.
