Cute & Crafty Budget Polka Dot Village Hall Wedding - Whimsical...

Cuteness overload. This celebration is just utterly lovely and filled to the brim with happiness.

WWW readers Sam and Luc were married on the 8th August 2015 at Lympstone Village Hall in Devon. With a budget of £6500 their whole day was a real DIY affair. With the bridesmaid dresses, cake, flowers, pom pom table décor and bunting all being hand made to name a few. Wow, a lot of time and love must have gone into crafting this day.

Sam actually wore a bridesmaid dress, but it was just so sweet. I do love a short frock and it's always a great idea to think outside of the box. She teamed her dress with a hand made veil, sunnies and polka dot shoes. The gents looked awesome in colourful braces and bow ties while the bridesmaids were pretty in lilac.

Thanks so much to Matilda Rose for sharing these joyful images today.

THE PROPOSAL | I came home late from school one day and was playing with the dog. Next thing I know Luc was on one knee. He closed the box for the ring and wouldn't let me see it again until I said yes.

THE VISION | We wanted an informal wedding, where people would feel comfortable and have lots of fun.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We were a bit rubbish with proper planning! Our big priority was finding a venue that we could afford on our date. Once we had the venue, the registrar and the food booked we did everything in drips and drabs. We had a few craft evenings/afternoons where our amazing friends helped us to make the pompom flowers for the tables and the bunting invitations. We probably left too many things to the last minute, but it all turned out fine on the day!

BUDGET | We had set a budget of £5,000, we went over slightly and spent around £6,500.

THE VENUE | Lympstone Village Hall. I grew up in Devon and it was the half-way point (time wise) for both sets of Grandparents. We fell in love with the venue and loved the fact it had a stage!

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The wedding dress is technically a bridesmaid dress (according to the label)! I kept it simple with the accessories. Luc contacted the guy who cut the ruby in my engagement ring and he made matching stud earrings for me. I had Irregular Choice polka dot shoes during the day and swapped them to converse style shoes in the evening. I bought some cheap trainers, a bottle of mod podge and some tubes of silver glitter and glittered them up. I was leaving a trail of glitter all night! I also learnt just how expensive wedding veils are, so I made my own!

FINDING THE DRESS | Nice and easy. Went to a wedding dress outlet store and ended up buying the first dress I tried on.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | We bought his bow-tie from Etsy, it was the closest match to my shoes we could find! We had a bit of a mad dash on the Tuesday before the wedding and bought a waistcoat and trousers from Debenhams for him and bought his wedding ring! He'd lost his black shoes somewhere, so on his trip back to London (we had to do two trips with all our wedding stuff!) he had to dig out another pair of smart shoes.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Our friend Jason read a couple of quotes that we had picked out from "Dos and Dont's for Husbands and Wives 1913". We each picked 3-4 quotes from the book for each other, some were sweet and some were funny and appropriate! Luc's very talented sister sung "Stand by Me", which was beautiful.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had two of my wonderful friends from high school and I had a Man of Honour who I have known for many many years, we met at a youth drama group. He picked out his outfit, I didn't know what he was going to wear until I saw him that day! The only rule was he had to wear something with polka dots. We didn't want everyone looking the same, so the girls picked their own colours and pattern style for the dresses. Luckily they picked colours that looked good together! I made the dresses and the material that was left over was used for some of the bunting.

THE FLOWERS | I went to a couple of local florists the day before the wedding and bought some flowers I thought looked nice! Gemma, my bridesmaid, then put the bouquets together on the morning of the wedding. They looked amazing!

THE CAKE | Another one of Luc's very talented sisters made the cake for us. It was perfect! It looked incredible and tasted just as good!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We had the amazing Matilda Rose. I'm so glad we picked her! The photos are beautiful and completely suit us. We love how natural the photos and smiles look, we couldn't have asked for better. Plus she was a fantastic help on the day!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Our general theme was polka dots - we are both big polka dot fans! We also wanted lots of colour in our wedding. We made pompom flowers for the table, with table top bunting and jars of Lego to keep people occupied. My mum made metres of bunting that we hung around the room. She also made mini bunting for the stage. The night before we all made big paper pompoms that we hung around both the main room and the side room. We are both big cider fans so had a big selection of ciders for the bar in the evening. We also made all our own elderflower wine for the tables!

THE HONEYMOON | Luc organised the honeymoon as a surprise! We spent 2 weeks in a few locations in Scotland, including Edinburgh festival. It was absolutely lovely.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | "The Best Man's Pose" became an iconic pose for the wedding and photo booth! The Best Man, Kwong, forgot to move out of the way when we were exchanging rings, so the majority of the hall just had a view of his back! We had so much fun taking our photos with Team Bride and Team Groom around the village. We had our top table on the stage and it was amazing looking out and seeing 100 odd people that we love!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Take photos! I had my phone with me the majority of the evening so I could try and take photos of everyone! Also, having a supportive Bridal party is key to a DIY wedding. We were lucky enough to have fantastic friends (and family) that went above and beyond to help the day run smoothly, not to mention all the help they gave us beforehand!
