Jewelry designer Caitlin Mociun shares her underwater vacation photos with us

One of her most loved spots is the Cayman Islands, where she spends the day underwater, looking at magical creatures and vivid colors and getting inspired to craft delicate and edgy fine gemstone earrings and more. In this story in our SPACE pages, we talked to her about the treasures of travel and the Mociun capsule collection she created just for us. And today-right here-we're following up with some specifics on her favorite Caribbean outpost and her favorite things to take along when she goes.

Three things you never travel without:

Gold bangles

Lightweight or heavyweight big scarf-depends on the climate I'm going to. It's great to keep warm and use as a blanket if you need it, or for the beach or as a rain cover. It's always good to have a big piece of fabric with you!

Bathing suit

Where specifically in the Caymans do you go?

Grand Cayman

Best time of year to be there?

In the winter it's drier; it'll be about 80 degrees. It can be rainy from May through October.

Where do you like to stay?

Honestly there aren't really cute places to stay. I've stayed at the Westin once and stayed at a friend's boss's condo. This island really isn't about architecture or design-it's all about the beaches and diving.

When and why did you take up scuba diving?

I started diving when I was 12, when my family was living in Thailand. I consistently went diving for about four years while we lived in Malaysia, then when we moved to Europe I didn't go again until I went to the Caymans last winter. So I'm just getting back into it.

What is it about the Caymans that makes for great scuba diving?

It's got amazing reefs and dive spots all around the islands. They take impeccable care of them. They sink ships and statues and stuff to foster growth of more reefs and it makes for interesting diving.

The world underwater sounds like:

Lots of little crackling noises.

In what ways does the ocean inspire or inform what you do?

It really calms my mind. It's like a reset button for my very overactive brain. I think it helps me clear out all the blah blah blah and get down to some really good clear ideas and thoughts.

Best meal in the Caymans:
Breakfast tacos with homemade salsa fresca
