Intimate Destination Wedding in Egypt

Intimate Destination Wedding in Egypt

Destination weddings are always among our favourite to share with you guys.

Because, not only are they a chance for us to get away from it all, (it's pretty rainy today, here in London!) but it also shows us different decor styles, venues, and catering ideas from around the world.

And if the idea of an intimate private beach wedding for just six for your closest friends, sounds like your perfect kind of wedding, then Matt & Sophia's bash might be just the inspiration you need.

Matt & Sophia got married in the idyllic Sultan Gardens Resort in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, with a secluded beach ceremony overlooking the Red Sea, and candlelit garden supper under the stars.

Photographed by Nora Photography and planned and styled by Elisabetta White of Linen and Silk Weddings, their beautiful wedding was a celebration that married their fun personalities with lots of local touches.

With pink roses, champagne pompoms, metallic lanterns, sequin table-clothes and coral bows, their decor was sweet and playful, with a touch of the luxurious and the exotic.

If you think having a small wedding means you can't splash out on unique decor and personalised details, think again, this wedding shows how it's done.

The Inspiration

Sophia wanted a low-key celebration, with a bespoke sunset ceremony on the beach decorated with a mix of fun details and traditional Egyptian lanterns, followed by an intimate, romantic dinner with views of the sea. Working alongside a team of local and UK suppliers (i.e. Eagle Eyed Bride for stationery, Gilded Linens for table linens and Debonair Venue Styling for ruffle chair hoods), we incorporated mixed metals and decor items typical of Egypt, such as giant floor lanterns and brass trays, with some fun and romantic touches too, like gold and coral pompoms and sequin table cloths. It represented Sophia's bubbly personality and her desire to have a day that embraced the local traditions, as well as her sweet and fun side too.

Local Touches

All the lanterns and trays were sourced out from a local craft shop, Africano in Old Market. We worked with mixed metals (matt silver and gold) in order to bring to life the beautiful colours of the natural surroundings (the silver shimmer of the sea and the beautiful golden light of sunset and the desert were a perfect backdrop for this beach wedding).

The Ceremony

Our altar was completely bespoke. From selecting the wooden structure with the resort's gardeners to setting up the gold, coral, and champagne pompoms, we crafted each detail to ensure Matt & Sophia had their own precious spot in one of the most beautiful beaches in Sharm el Sheik, overlooking the Red Sea and Tiran Island.

The Photography

Our photographer, Nora Photography, is a destination photographer from Switzerland. Sophia was really keen to have a photographer who wouldn't be fazed by the heat (we had 45C on that day!) and who knew exactly how to work with the light and make the best of the beautiful landscape. Having lived in Sharm el-Sheikh for over 7 years, Nora was the perfect girl for the job!

The Stationery

Eagle Eyed Bride customised one of their recent collections (the St. Pancras Love Lace) with deep coral tones. We went for their beautiful coordinated suite, which included their luxe invitation, menus, bow tie place cards and bespoke thank you cards that were attached to paper fans favours

The Cakes

Contrary to what people think, in Sharm you can find some fabulous cake designers. We used a local Italian cake designer, Sapori & Delizie, who created a dessert table using lace and gold touches, from marshmallows, to cupcakes and cake pops, all styled on Gilded Linens sequin champagne table cloth.

So many lovely touches. Is it just me, or do weddings like this one make you want to ditch your 70+ guest wedding, and jet off for something a little more intimate?

Thanks so much to Nora Photography, Elisabetta White of Linen and Silk Weddings and of course, Matt & Sophia for sharing their Egyptian destination wedding with us.
