Family Crafted Elegant & Timeless Marquee Garden Wedding -...

It may be the bank holiday, but that doesn't mean you can't get stuck into all things wedding today. In fact in my opinion the extra day off lends itself perfectly to a little wedding planning.

Edward and Emily were married in June last year and planned their wedding from the other side of the world. They booked Deans Court in Dorset without even seeing it and what a fabulous choice it was. The pretty gardens hosted their marquee reception, complete with rowing boats, festoon lights and Mexican paper flags.

There were Sweet Williams in jugs alongside pebble place names and bridesmaids in navy frocks. Emily and Edward looked so very stylish and love was certainly in the air.

Thanks so much to Anna Morgan Photography for sharing such wonderful imagery with us today.

THE PROPOSAL | We were skiing with a group of friends. It had been impossible to get Emily alone all week, when I finally did, we were up at a beautiful natural rock arch on top of the mountains, unfortunately visibility was awful, so the panorama was wasted. Emily was snowboarding and ended up kneeling down for the proposal, not very traditional I know!

THE VISION | We never sat down and sketched out themes or styles that we would go for. The important things for us were to have as many friends and family there as possible, to do away with the glitz and glam and to have plenty of booze, food and music!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We were living in New Zealand for almost the entire duration of the planning process, which meant we did everything at arms length. We booked the venue without seeing it actually, but I don't think that really bothered us. Happily the venue came with an extremely helpful events manager who we leaned on quite heavily! (Many many thanks J Cornish!)

THE VENUE | Deans Court, Wimborne. It had a lot of outside space and grounds that felt really rustic and quiet. There was a whole bunch of cool stuff there, including fire pits and a small lake with a rowing boat (which was taken out by a couple of high spirited guests - one of which got very wet!) Another favorite of ours was a huge tree on the grounds which lots of the guests ended up in, just fabulous.

The eating and drinking was done in a marque, the venue gave the option of them putting out their country decor, it was simple and understated and looked great. We put a few prayer flags up too just to add a little of our own decor.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | White Leaf Boutique, Brighton.

FINDING THE DRESS | I happened to be back in the UK for a few days about 6 months before the wedding so decided to take my bridesmaids dress shopping in Brighton where one of the bridesmaids lived. We found this dress in the lovely White Leaf Boutique. It was made of hemp silk and was just what I was looking for. I was able to adapt and customise it adding the lacey detail to the top half and turning the material inside out as I preferred the silky side. What they made was perfect and I absolutely loved it. It suited the style of our wedding and I felt so comfortable in it all day.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Ed bought a suit off the rack from Austin Reed, the waist-coat came in handy when it got too hot for the jacket. He got a few "cycling accessories" for his suit so as not to feel too self conscious all dressed up. Unfortunately the suit didn't stand up to dry cleaning and had to be returned after the wedding.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We had a catholic ceremony and, correspondingly, biblical readings, it was a really powerful hour with a swelling chorus for the hymns. The music during the ceremony was split between a friend on the organ and a trombone/piano piece during the signing of the documents. The bride entered to Loudon Wainwright III "Swimming song," which is enough to lift anybodies spirits. We had a cracking band for the evening, who were pretty funny to boot.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I didn't have too many pre-conceptions about what the brides-maids should or shouldn't wear (I was sure they'd look great whatever!) So in the end I went for something that they could make a bit their own and would allow them to pull some shapes on the dance floor. They are my closest friends and it wouldn't have been the same without them there, and they looked great.

THE FLOWERS | The flowers at the venue were kindly done by Ed's Mum and auntie, who managed to boss flower arranging like pros . They were arranged into a mixture of rustic jugs we borrowed from some family friends which added a charmingly ad-hoc feel. The bride and bridesmaids flowers were beautifully chosen and arranged by the brides Auntie Janey.

THE CAKE | Again, it was a family affair, we were expecting something simple, but it turned out to be a work of art made by Em's Auntie Marria and Cousin Verity. It was delicious.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Anna Morgan was our photographer on the day, she had met with us before hand and could not have been more helpful. I had seen her at a friends wedding a month or so before ours and thought her interaction with guests was really great, so was super stoked we had booked her. We were really happy with the shots she got of us and our families. Photos we will treasure for the rest of our lives.

THE DETAILS & DECOR | Most of the details and decor were either provided by Deans Court of we made them ourselves. The table plan was written on a huge gold framed mirror which was very easy to do and the place names were written.

THE HONEYMOON | We went to Mauritius and tried to chill out on a beach for a week. There was some nice ocean water to swim in and the world cup was on, couldn't have asked for more really.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | I just remember laughing and smiling a lot, it was a real fun day. I wish I could do it all over again. Seeing Ed dancing as I walked into the Church with my dad was one of my favourtie moments!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Don't sweat the small stuff, or the speeches. It'll all be good.
