Handmade Rustic Hessian & Lace Marquee Wedding - Whimsical...

via

Being a wedding planner, bride Amy had so many great ideas and went for a hessian, lace and Gypsophila filled extravaganza. DIYing much of the brilliant little details and décor herself paid off as it looked utterly sensational.

Amy and Joel were married on Saturday 19th July 2014 at Crow Hill in Huddersfield. They wanted their wedding to be fun for their guests and one area of their wedding they put much thought into was their music choices.

Amy wore a divine dress by Pronovias with lace edged veil while her favourite girls looked oh so pretty donning flower crowns. LOVE.

Thanks so much to the fabulous Sally T Photography for sharing her images with us.

THE PROPOSAL | Joel did amazing! He booked us tickets to go and see our favourite band Stornoway at The Trades Club, Hebden Bridge. Beforehand he had contacted the bands agent and asked them to announce that Joel had a question to ask me during their set. He was so nervous all evening - bless him, meanwhile I was blissfully unaware dancing away to the songs! After they announced it I turned around to find the crowd around us had parted and Joel was down on one knee with a beautiful sparkly ring in a box! It was the best night ever, after the gig we had photos with the band and we made it onto the front page on the local newspaper!

THE VISION | As I am a wedding planner myself I have always dreamed of a gorgeous big white wedding so it was never going to be a low-key affair! I wanted a lot of handmade and personal touches so myself and family members made a lot of the décor such as chair ties, bunting and cutlery pouches. We wanted our guests to have loads of fun throughout the day, which I'm happy to say we achieved!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We had just over a year to plan the wedding and make all of the décor which was just enough time - I don't think we could have contained our excitement for much longer! The planning process went really smoothly (I think my experience from work definitely helped!) and I was super organised with getting seating plans and food orders sent to the venue beforehand.

BUDGET | We didn't have a specific budget set but we definitely spent more than we intended to! I have to admit we got rather carried away (me in particular!) with buying gorgeous décor and booking more suppliers such as the photo booth and magician!

THE VENUE | Our venue was Crow Hill in Marsden, Huddersfield. It is the most beautiful family-run venue that is not only stunning, but incredibly well-run By Rebecca and Eve who ensured our big day ran without a glitch. We hired the venue exclusively for the whole weekend - it was just perfect and even better that we got to extend the wedding over 3 days! The wedding venue is a beautiful marquee that is in the grounds of a Victorian Country house with bedrooms.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I chose a beautiful Pronovias Planeta lace wedding dress with a matching lace veil. I also accessorised with a matching lace bolero which I wore in the day time and took off so I could party in the evening. I had so many comments about how beautiful the dress was and I truly felt like a princess the whole day!

FINDING THE DRESS | Me and my Mum went to just 2 dress shops in the search for the perfect gown! We thought we had found 'the one' in the first shop near my house but to make sure I hadn't rushed into it we travelled to a shop further afield in Harrogate to try it on again and to compare it with others. When we got there I found another one that blew me away and this was the dress I was so proud to wear on my wedding day!

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Joel and his 6 groomsmen (plus our 2 dad's) hired some gorgeous navy slim suits with matching waist coats for the big day. We purchased some navy skinny ties with white polka dots too as Joel was adamant he didn't want a 'fat tie' on his wedding day, the ties then doubled up as part of the guys presents from us.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We asked my Brother and another usher to deliver readings during our church ceremony which were both beautiful and meant a lot to us.

The music for the day was really important to us both so we spent a lot of time arranging playlists for during the meal and sending playlists to our DJ for the evening. We were also lucky enough to have our amazing friend Liz Keeting perform during our drinks reception along with an acoustic guitarist. They did an excellent job and even wrote and performed a song for us which blew us away - such happy memories!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had 1 maid of honour and 2 bridesmaids who were all great and so supportive for me both on the run-up and on the wedding day itself. They wore rustic pink/lilac one-shoulder dresses from Coast with beautiful floral headpieces made of Gypsophila and ribbon.

THE FLOWERS | I really like simple flowers therefore we chose to have lots of Gypsophila to fill our centrepieces and to fill the birdcages hanging from the marquee ceiling. We also used gyp in all of the loose jam jars and milk bottles that were scattered around the marquee which looked beautiful. For our bouquets we had a lovely mix of dusky pink and lilac flowers surrounded by foliage and gyp, the bouquets were finished with a beautiful lace trail. The boys all had a small bunch of gyp wrapped in hessian which matched our hessian and lace theme perfectly.

THE CAKE | Neither of us are big sweet lovers so we were never bothered about spending lots of money on a wedding cake. To avoid this (and incorporate something we both like) we chose to have a 6-tier pork pie and cheese cake. The cake was then decorated with grapes and finished with tiny wooden mice which looked really cute! My sister-in-law and amazing bridesmaid also made us a tasty 3-tier naked cake where each layer was a different flavour. At the end of the night both cakes had been completely eaten - they must have been yummy!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Upon recommendation from our friends who got married in 2012 and after seeing their beautiful photos we booked Sally T to do our wedding photography. We knew that Sally was a like-minded and laid back lady who we knew we would get along well with - we were not wrong! We first met with Sally in the spring of this year to have a pre-wedding shoot which we were both slightly nervous about. As soon as we met we were both instantly at ease and posing for photos which turned out to be perfect! We both left feeling so relieved and really excited to see Sally again at our wedding. On the day we could not have asked for more - she was there at all the right moments and so patient with us as we got sidetracked talking with friends and trying to find dry places to pose in the pouring rain! When we got our proofs back we actually both cried at how amazing the images were on the slide show she had created. We've since received our full album which again we were blown away with - another big thank you to Sally, she is so amazing and we would highly recommend.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | The décor and details were certainly my special project! As I coordinate other people's weddings every week I had so many amazing ideas that I wanted for my own wedding. Joel ended up telling me I had to pick 'one theme' as I got so carried away and had a mixture of all sorts going on! We eventually agreed on a hessian and lace theme with lots of Gypsophila and we were so pleased with how it turned out. I made a lot of the décor myself and with help from my family and friends which felt even more amazing when we first saw the full marquee dressed on the night before the wedding. Lots of our guests said it was the most stunning wedding they had attended which was a brilliant feeling as so much time and effort had been put into it! We even managed to sell lots of the décor after the wedding which was a huge bonus!

THE HONEYMOON | We decided we wanted to 'go all out' for our honeymoon which was the best decision we have ever made! We booked 3 weeks in Bali, Indonesia and it truly was the pure luxury and the greatest time of our lives (other than the actual wedding day itself!) Bali is an amazing country, it is beautiful, exciting, relaxing and most of all, full of friendly people who were always there to help. Everywhere we went we were treat like royalty and our hotels were more than 5*. We will definitely visit Bali (and Lombok, the island next door) again!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | For us, the whole wedding experience was simply unforgettable. From the initial proposal right up to landing back at Manchester Airport after our honeymoon we both had the best experiences and we are so lucky we have friends and family who all helped to make it all happen. We loved having family over from as far as South Africa and America for the wedding weekend, and having all of our favourite people in one room meant so much to us. A few favourite memories for have to be ....

Walking down the aisle with my Dad . Listening to the Speeches . Liz performing the personalised song to us. Our first dance.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Try not to let the stress take over in the run-up to the wedding and enjoy the planning! When the day comes try to sit back and take a good look at everyone and everything so you can remember the happy memories!
