Are You Brushing Your Hair the Right Way?

Are You Brushing Your Hair the Right Way?

For most women, hair is a big deal. Our crowning glory, manes have a way of lifting our self confidence or sending it crashing to the ground. While we like to think that good and bad hair days are controlled by the hair gods, they are actually in our own hands - literally. The way we brush our hair can determine the health of our precious strands and whether or not our hair will be a frizzy, damaged mess. Let us empower you with some tips on how to brush those strands right and make every day a great hair day.

Use the proper brush!

Investing in the right hair brush is crucial to keeping your hair happy and healthy. Lucky for us, there are dozens of brushes to choose from! For example, for long, thick hair, go with a square, nylon paddle brush (like Shu Uemura Paddle Brush), while fine-haired ladies should opt for boar-bristle brushes. Don't over-brush!

Marcia Brady may have had some beautiful hair, but her method of brushing her locks 100 times was a no bueno. Over-brushing your hair can add unnecessary stress to your strands and lead to split ends and breakage. Instead, opt for 15 gentle strokes or so, focusing on the ends first (to smooth out any tangles) and then running the brush through the entire length of your hair.

Don't brush wet hair!

Our locks lose a lot of elasticity when they're wet, so brushing them right after you jump out of the shower can lead to breakage. Yikes! Use this time wisely by spritzing your wet strands with a leave-in conditioner (we love Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Intensely Smooth Leave-In Conditioning) and comb through it with a wide-toothed comb. Once your hair is dry, go ahead and pick up that brush!
