Your Ultimate Guide to Marsala Hair

A mix of deep auburn, chocolate and copper tones, Pantone's 2015 Color of the Year, marsala, can work as a hair color for a range of people. Think of it as a cool cross between red and brunette - just like the Italian wine after which it is named.

For brunettes who have always wanted to go red, you're in luck. The color works easiest on those who have naturally darker hair, and it can look lovely on light, caramel and darker skin tones. Try something like L'Oréal Paris Féria in Auburn Brown. If you have very dark hair, use a product like Garnier Nutrisse Ultra Color Nourishing Color Creme in Intense Burgundy, which is made to make dark hair lighter.

If you're not ready to change your full head of hair, marsala-inspired highlights in brunettes can provide a gorgeous, yet natural-looking pop of color.

To get the look with less commitment, try hair makeup or temporary color, like Redken Color Rebel Red-Y To Rock. And, to get a small taste of red, try applying wash-out color to brunette - Garnier Color Styler in Bronze Attitude is a fun choice.
