1. Get a prenup drafted

We're sure most of you know what a prenup or an anti-nuptial contract entails, and that it is recommended that you have such a document before saying I do. We won't go into any nitty gritty details here, however this item should be ticked off the list during this time so that all is in order for your marriage officer before you walk down the aisle.

2. Purchase your wedding bands

If you and your fiancé are exchanging wedding bands, then now is the time to start shopping around and deciding on what the both (or one of you) would like. There are many options here, from standard stock held at jewelers to having something custom made - this is so exciting as now is the time your hubby to be also gets a bit of bling!

3. Send invitations

Formal invitations usually get sent around the 4 to 3 month mark, so if you'd like to be early get it done here. The rsvp date as a recommendation should be 1 month prior to your wedding date so that there is enough time to confirm numbers with caterers and suppliers. If your invites refer to a wedding website, then now is the time you need to make the site live so that your guests have all the information at their fingertips once they receive their invitations.

4. Arrange rehearsal dinner

Are you having an informal/formal get together the day before your nuptials? Most couples like to do this as it sets the tone for the celebrations to come with everyone gathered and sharing in your joy as a couple. Start thinking about whether you'd like to host one of these gatherings around this time.

5. Hire or purchase groom and groomsmen attire

If you plan on hiring or purchasing outfits for the groom and groomsmen this is the time to start shopping around. This is also ample lead time should your groom wish to have a tailored suit custom made so that there are no last minute surprises with deadlines that can't be met.

6. Send the bridal shower list to the Maid of Honour

Your MOH should be planning your bridal shower - send her the guest list of all the ladies you'd like to invite to your shower. As a rule only include ladies that are invited to the wedding - you don't want any awkward situations of someone attending your bridal shower and giving you a gift and then not inviting them to the wedding.

7. Buy your wedding shoes

This seems like a trivial decision, but it is one that should not be taken lightly! You are going to be spending around 10 hours in these shoes so comfort is key - trust us on this one. No matter how sexy those platform rhinestone encrusted shoes look, they will not be kind to your feet. You want to be comfortable during the entire wedding day, you'll be surprised how much walking and standing the bride and groom do on the big day. You most certainly do not have to compromise on style in order to find comfort - try on the shoes in the store and walk around in them for a couple of minutes. A few seconds of standing in them won't do, you will need to see how they move in order to feel if they are comfortable or not. Often a soft leather is a good option as the fabric will move with your foot making the shoe more comfortable. Another good tip is choosing a shoe that you could see yourself wearing again after the wedding.

8. Create favours and all other crafts

If you are doing any DIY projects or favours, now is the time to start putting them together. In the 3 months leading up to the wedding you will be preoccupied with so many other tasks that it is best to finish the favours and crafts during this time. You can then relax knowing that all the 'manual labour' has been taken care of in the few months leading up to the big day.

There you have it! Once you've ticked off the above items you are on your way to wedding day bliss! Join us in 2 weeks for what to do 3 months before you say 'I do.' Happy planning!
