Simple Classic Vintage Yacht Club Wedding

Location as they say is everything and what a stunning setting this lovely couple chose for their nuptials.

WWW readers Philippa and Lee chose to marry on the 19 th July 2014 at Royal Solent Yacht Club on the Isle of Wight. They hoped to achieve a simple classic vintage affair which worked wonderfully.

They had sweet book themed décor throughout complete with clocks and cameras. The blooms were a delight and the bridesmaids pretty in pink.

Philippa looked beautiful in her 1950s inspired frock by Forget Me Not Designs while Lee looked dapper in his dinner suit. Wow.

Thanks so very much to the amazing Jason Mark Harris Photography for sharing his photographs with us.

THE PROPOSAL | No proposal (sorry not very romantic) we just decided together to get married.

THE VISION | Simple Classic Vintage.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | I used wedding blogs and magazines to help me with budgets and for inspiration. Ultimately I wanted to do as much as I could myself, as I wanted the wedding to have my own personal stamp on it. My sister is getting married next month so we swapped a lot of tips.

BUDGET | 12k (probably not a budget wedding!) we spent 14k.

THE VENUE | Royal Solent Yacht Club Yarmouth Isle of Wight - we chose the venue as its right on the water and I grew up on the Isle of Wight. Its one of the most beautiful places in England.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The best bit was the lace on top came off so the dress could be strapless in the evening!

Our Wedding rings were from Addy's Vintage on Etsy. Mine is from 1920s two rows of single pave set old diamonds, its very unique.

My mum let me wear my grandmothers diamond bracelet from 1930's, which complemented my theme and my wedding ring.

Vintage style pearl earrings & hair comb from Etsy.

Shoes were from Rachel Simpson peep toe 50's style heels. They were super comfortable. I was dreading the satin covered wedding shoes that most places seem to offer so was so please when I found this site.

FINDING THE DRESS | I wanted a 50's style dress, very simple.

I went to Forget Me Not Designs on the Isle of Wight tried on a few dresses and picked the bits I liked to make the perfect dress. Great service and the dress are made for you, in England and it doesn't break the bank!

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Navy Vintage Dinner 3 piece suit from Topman, bow tie & pocket square. Simple white rose bud buttonhole.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We spent a long time choosing readings and music as this is Lee's area of expertise. We chose an excerpt from The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman, Lee bought me a copy of the books one Christmas and a love letter from Leo Tolstoy To Valeria Arsenev.

Lee wanted me to walk into Mysteries of Love - Julee Cruise, the theme music from the film Blue Velvet.

For exit music we chose One Day Like This - Elbow this song is so uplifting and reminds us of going to Glastonbury.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | 4 Bridesmaids, Claire Sixsmith (my sister) Amy Corcoran, Lucy Whittemore and Hannah Byers. All in Topshop dresses in simple nude. They were so much help.

THE FLOWERS | Simple country garden bouquet - with seasonal summer flowers and herbs (it smelt amazing, but made Lee sneeze! Bridesmaids had simple Gysoph. All From Flower Garden.

THE CAKE | M&S - Romantic Pearl Cake - each Layer was different. We kept it simple and just put pink roses on top of the cake.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Jason Mark Harris, we chose him because he took natural unposed shots

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I wanted to incorporate things that would mean something to our guests and us, so I chose a books and writing theme also as Lee loves reading.

I got my invites made by Stephanie at Elinor Rose. I asked her to print table numbers, menus and a table plan as well.

We used wooden vintage scrabble tiles as name places, these were also favours which we thought were much more personal that chocolates or sweets.

Table numbers and table plan was stuck to books on the table.

The local floral arts society filled teacups and vintage vases with 'seasonal country flowers'. They also made rosemary hearts and lavender bunches to go under bell jars on books.

We also had vintage items on the table like old cameras, clocks and a typewriter all from ebay.

THE HONEYMOON | We plan to go to India early next year.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The whole day went so fast...

My favourite part of the wedding was the speeches especially my fathers and my husbands, they had put so much thought into them.

My husband's most memorable moment was the nervous excitement he felt just before he saw me.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | People told us we HAD to do things for our wedding, like a 1 st dance or the bride not allowed to make a speech... We didn't want a traditional wedding so we didn't do them and it really made the day ours!
