This is the most perfect wedding for a Friday afternoon. Relaxed, low key and full of fun DIY details.

The hanging vinyl decor and vinyl guest book? So easy to recreate. I love how effective the brightly coloured pinwheels look too - just goes to show, sometimes less is more.

Laura The Bride: For our wedding day we wanted to be certain of three things. That we had all our friends and family there, that it was personal to us, expressing our shared love of music and most importantly, that it was a lot of fun.

The Admin

We didn't bother with paper invites in the end as we felt that they were a bit formal for our informal wedding. Instead we used a fantastic free website called Getting Married. We also used Buy Our Honeymoon for our giftlist. As we'd been living together for a few months we didn't really need things like pots and pans and the thought of asking for money was slightly embarrassing! Buy Our Honeymoon was a great compromise and our guests loved the personal touches and humour we used when putting together the list.

The Dress

Laura wore fishtail, lace, vintage style Justin Alexander dress, which was actually bought on ebay, with alterations made a local dress maker. Bridal make-up was by Andriani Vasiliou - our very fabulous and very talented make-up artist friend.

The Bridesmaids

With a pastel colour, retro inspired theme, we decided to dress the bridesmaids each in a different pastel colour dress. Dresses were from H&M, BHS and Dorothy Perkins! Andria brought extra make-up for all the bridesmaids and talked them through how to apply it themselves.

The Flowers

As the wedding was so informal, we wanted flowers to match this. Our colourful hand-tied bouquets were by Ivy Pip and Rose. We absolutely loved the wild flower feel, which totally matched with the venue's urban garden.

The Groom

Olly got his suit from Adam of London. He is a former Carnaby Street tailor with a shop underneath the Westway in Notting Hill. His style is 60s mod and many of his suits come in extremely limited editions. Olly coupled this with a black pair of Chelsea Boots from Loake, socks from Fred Perry and solid golf cufflinks from his uncle. He also wore his late Father's gold watch.

The Venue

Our two chosen venues were Islington Town Hall for the ceremony (where Olly is a Borough Councillor) and Mildmay Community Centre for the reception (where Olly is a trustee and volunteer). We didn't look at any other venues at all, as we knew straight away that we wanted to use these spaces, which were so personal to us. Mildmay Community Centre is an old tram shed on a council estate, which has been retrofitted to Passive House standard. It retains its old ramshackle charm, with a beautiful urban wild garden in the back and a huge modern space inside, which allowed us to transform it into something very special. It's one of East London's hidden gems.

The Decor

We sourced all the decorations for the venue and made them ourselves - this was so much fun and also made the day feel like it was a reflection of us. To help us transform the community centre sand help us relax on the day we hired a wedding planner - Elisabetta from Linen and Silk weddings. Even with a budget DIY wedding like ours it was essential that neither we, or our nearest and dearest were stressed on the day with important logistical details and decorations. Elisabetta was completely amazing, and great at making us feel like she had everything under control. On the day she coordinated the finishing touches to the Community Centre decorations (we went in the night before the wedding and did a lot of the decorating with our family and friends), the caterers, bar staff and generally kept everything running smoothly. We highly recommend her and the idea of getting an on-the-day planner, as it takes all the stress of the family and the couple.

Our venue was full of personal touches, including paper puff balls (which matched the bridesmaids dresses), pin wheels, candles, hydrangeas, a photo wall of our favourite memories, and lot and lots of vinyl records. Laura made a hanging wall of vinyl with old records and fishing wire - which looked awesome behind the DJ booth. Our guestbook was actually people signing short messages to us on records we love. We bought special pens that write on vinyl and, cheap records from charity shops covered with labels of our favourite albums.

The Food

We wanted our wedding reception to have an informal party feel, so we didn't have a formal sit down dinner. Instead we chose a New Orleans, Louisiana style BBQ catered by Smiths. The Community Centre has an incredible outdoor area with room for everyone and a BBQ allowed for amazing food and a casual atmosphere with everyone circulating and chatting. We made our very own ice cream bar for dessert and as a personal touch, our friend Sofie made us an exceptional cake, fitting in our bridesmaid colour and vinyl record themes. It was the most incredible cake and so personal to us.

We didn't want our guests to have to bring and spend lots of money so a free bar was essential. We stocked it with a lot of Sam Adams beer, prosecco, ales, cider, wine and sprits. The Community Centre had no bar so ordered from Majestic and hired bar staff through the caterer. As we used a community centre, with no official 'bar' looking to make a profit, this was much cheaper than you think and really helped the wedding atmosphere.

The Entertainment

We absolutely love music, so for the entertainment, we asked our very good friends who run White Heat to DJ for us. Most of our friends were teenagers during the Britpop era, so the whole night was full of Oasis, Blur, Primal Scream and loads of other old indie hits.

The final touch was our reception was a 'photo booth'. Earlier in the year we'd been to the exhibition to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Oasis' Definitely Maybe, where they had built the album's front cover and encouraged visitors to pose in it. We loved this idea so decided to do our own using the cover of Parallel Lines by Blondie, changing the band name and title of the album to 'Laura and Olly' and the date of the wedding - this we did ourselves with the help of our amazing friends Anna and Damian. The booth was a massive hit with people posing in front of it all night.

The Photographer

To capture all this mayhem we chose Laura De-Bourde Photography. Laura was amazing from start to finish and felt like one of the guests! As our wedding started at 6pm, we decided to meet before the wedding for our couples photos - we really didn't want to spent time photo taking while our guests were partying. The first look was a lot of fun and it was so nice to spend a bit of time together before we got married.
