Modern Country Wedding - Polka Dot Bride

Lisa and Paul stayed true to their roots - Paul a country boy, Lisa a city girl - and held a modern farm wedding at home, or as Lisa says a wedding of "city meets country". They chose When Elephant Met Zebra as their photographers to capture every moment of their wedding day.

The newlyweds tell the story of how they came to marry. "Paul walked up to Lisa at the Victory Hotel. Lisa said you are too young so please don't bother. Paul then insisted on pulling out his ID to prove to Lisa that he was 33. It came out later that Paul had lied but Lisa had not actually read his date of birth to figure that out at the time."

The bridesmaids each wore black dresses from with white orchid wrist corsages created by Tanya Liddell of Sassaffair Events

Lisa chose a vintage Alexander McQueen gown for her wedding gown.

Lisa and Paul married at home, using wedding planner Sassaffair Events to bring it all together. Lisa tells, "We decided to have the wedding at our home as it allowed us the flexibility not available at other venues. Styling definitely isn't something that Paul and I specialize in so we hired Tanya from Sassaffair Events to theme our event and plan the wedding. Through consultation with her, we decided on a modern twist of a "rustic country" theme. Tanya used natural fibers throughout both the wedding and reception with the inclusion of straw bales and organic textures such as wood and hessian."

Lisa walked down the aisle to "Have a Little Faith in Me" - Joe Cocker.

"Paul is a country boy from a small outback community in QLD so we wanted to remain true to his family heritage and have a country style wedding on our Brisbane acreage - seemed a fitting place! On a tight budget Tanya of Sassaffair Events was able to create a perfect atmosphere for us to marry. A floating ribbon backdrop with milk bottles holding flowers was ideal for us to marry in front of. Guests sat on cushions upon hay bales while they witnessed our ceremony and then moved in to a white marquee with long banquet tables styled in a chic meets country style." The couple chose Ketrina Coffey to perform their ceremony.

The heat made it a little difficult for the groom's ring to go on to his finger! It remains one of the funnier moments of the wedding day for Paul and Lisa.

The reception was under a white marquee all styled by Sassaffair Events, where guests dined at long tables while seated on hay bales. Lisa tells "Fruit and flowers were heavily used in the reception's decoration to create a welcoming country homestead atmosphere. Vintage lanterns and candles were also used in the reception space to create a scene of intimacy and romance."

The couple chose a wedding cake from Helen's Designer Cakes which was designed to reflect their polar opposites.

One of the newlyweds favourite memories was during the speeches, they tell, "Lisa's brother who is not an overly emotional person made a speech telling Lisa how much he loved her and how much respect he has for Paul and was glad that they were married."

Of their first dance, Lisa remembers "Our first dance was to "Beneath Your Beautiful" by Labyrinth. Paul and I do not really dance so it was a gentle sway in each others arms. It was emotional and beautiful. "

Congratulations on your marriage Lisa and Paul! Thank you for sharing your day with us! Thank you also to When Elephant Met Zebra and Sassaffair Events for sharing today's wedding with us!
