Quiz: How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?

Quiz: How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?

via

By now, you've heard us sound off many a time about the perils of over-washing your hair. We are all fully aware of the benefits of giving that shampoo a rest (retained natural oils and moisture), but the question of when to pick it up again still remains. There are many varying opinions out there as to how often we should wash our manes: once a week, twice a week, once every two weeks, every other day, etc. With so many hair types and conditions out there, there really is no universal answer to that question. To save you (and your hair) a headache, we came up with an easy-breezy MDC quiz to help you gauge how often you should shampoo those locks.

1. How would you describe your hair texture?
  1. Fine
  2. Medium
  3. Coarse
2. What is your hair type?
  1. Oily
  2. Normal
  3. Dry/Dehydrated
3. How often do you color your hair? 4. I style my hair with:
  1. Never
  2. Occasionally - I rock the ombré or dabble in some highlights from time to time.
  3. Regularly - once a month at least
5. What's your hairstyle of choice?
  1. Nothing except for a bit of styling product when I need to tame a few stray hairs
  2. I run a curling iron through a few strands to give it some body.
  3. You name it, I use it.
  1. Au naturel
  2. Soft curls
  3. Stick straight

Mostly As. Every other day. Your hair is either prone to oil or isn't being constantly treated with hair dye or heat styling tools, so washing it every other day is the best bet for you. Try a shampoo specifically for oily to normal hair types (like Matrix Biolage Normalizing Shampoo) to keep your locks happy and healthy.

Mostly Bs. Two to three times a week. You're a girl that can afford to skip a couple days in-between washes as your hair has some serious staying power. Retain those essential oils and moisture without looking like an unwashed mess by investing in a texturizing powder or spray like L'Oréal Professionel True Grip Texturizing Powder.

Mostly Cs. Once a week. Whether it's because of your coarse curls or because of your chronic coloring ways, your mane needs all the moisture it can get. Washing it too often can strip it of the nutrients it's so desperate for, so keep the washing to a minimum. Use dry shampoo like Garnier Fructis Volume Extend Instant Bodified Dry Shampoo in between washes to keep it looking fresh and lovely!
