I have to say that I do love being able to blog an Irish wedding. Those beautiful folk from across the sea always seem to possess such style, such poise, all packaged up with a huge dollop of fun and Aoife and Damien's big day is no exception.

This beautiful duo married at The Millhouse in Slane amidst pink roses and romantically ramshackle outhouses filled to the brim with character. Aoife told me that when she was younger she wanted to be Audrey Hepburn when she grew up and that her own wedding dress reminded her of something Audrey Hepburn might have worn in Funny Face. I have to say that I absolutely adore that comparison and that her ruminations aren't far from the truth in my opinion.

Oh and there's an ice-cream truck, a fantastic idea that just doesn't get old in my opinion. If only I was lucky enough to attend a wedding where one turns up with its merry little tune....

Aoife The Bride: I love 1950's fashion and when I was younger I wanted to be Audrey Hepburn when I grew up. This was the first dress that I saw when I was looking at pictures of dresses online and it reminded me of something Audrey Hepburn might have worn in Funny Face (one of my favourite films of all time). I loved the lace and button details on the back; unfortunately this dress was not available in Ireland and the lovely Laura in the Bridal Studio in Drogheda managed to fly the dress in from Italy for two days in order for me to try on.

I couldn't find shoes for ages, I really wanted silver sparkly shoes but couldn't find any in Dublin! Brown Thomas in Dublin were very helpful and explained that Louboutin could make shoes to specification, so I was able to pick my heel height, colour and they arrived 6 weeks later all shiny and sparkly. I wanted something very simple in my hair as the dress and shoes had a lot of bling and the Jenny Packham head band was perfectly simple.

All of the Groom's outfit was sourced from Arnottsin Dublin. After hearing what Damien was looking for (relaxed and stylish with a hint of another era), Arnotts' wonderful stylist Harry helped pick Damien's suit then we had great fun choosing the tie and pocket square from a gorgeous selection of Liberty prints. The bridesmaids picked their colours and dress styles from Courtesan Boutique and had a great time spinning and twirling their 1950s's style dresses.

The Millhouse was the first and only venue that we viewed. We knew immediately it was exactly what we wanted. It has an amazing quirky charm and we loved its laid back atmosphere and gorgeous vintage style decor.

The Millhouse is the perfect backdrop to decorate - we had so much fun decorating the venue. We choose pastel colours for the day, pink to match the bouquets and blue to match the bridesmaids' dresses (blue is Damien's favourite colour). My mother's name is Ivy and we draped Ivy around the candle sticks on each table as a tribute to her. All of the tables were decorated with dried pink roses, newsprint confetti heart and butterflys, the newsprint theme was carried on with our Mr & Mrs Flags and bunting.

I sell vintage handbags and accessories and wanted to use an old vintage suitcase to create the table plan. Myself and Damien had so much fun decorating the suitcase with vintage style wallpaper and ribbon. I wanted my grandmother's memory present throughout the day and we placed the vintage suitcase seating plan on top of her old trunk that she used on all of her travels.

We chose pink roses for all the bouquets because of my memories of my grandmother's beautiful pink English roses which grew along the walls of her cottage when I was growing up. When they were in bloom the scent wafted through the air during the summer. The flowers were arranged in vintage tea cups and jam jars which added to the vintage vibe of the day.

The drinks reception kicked off with a gorgeous Tapas Buffet Table with Prosecco and buckets of beer. It was a beautiful warm sunny day and Larry's Ice Cream Van arrived after the drinks reception to help cool guests down. We both love BBQ - who doesn't love a barbecue? - so we sat down to amazing Italian style beef burgers and Chorizo skewers which were followed by our favourite dessert- Chocolate Fondant. We both love cake and couldn't decide on one particular cake flavour so we decided that we should have a cake table with all of our favourite cake flavours. Chocolate, carrot cake, coconut and fresh fruit sponge to name a few!

Julie was the first and only photographer we met and we knew instantly that she was going to be amazing. Without even explaining very much to her she totally understood the relaxed vibe we wanted for the day. She put our families at ease and her pictures are amazing. The setting of the Millhouse lent itself well to both ours and Julie's style and Julie knew how to capture this and the results speak for themselves.

Marianne McNulty created a beautiful illustration of Damien and I and we used this on our wedding invites. We had this enlarged and all of our guests signed this for us as a memento of our day.
