Summer & Robin: The Time For Pampering.

Summer & Robin: The Time For Pampering.

Hi lovely people. I've had the bestest (most busiest) month ever. No kidding...I now have two proper jobs, one volunteer job, a three year old child and I'm about to start an Open University degree...and oh yeah, I'm planning a wedding!

Needless to say, when we get the opportunity to spend some time together (watching Game of Thrones only half counts because obviously that's serious and no chatting/texting etc is allowed) we jump to attention.

A week ago we spent the evening at the Thermae Spa here in Bath and it was the BEST. We went for the Twilight package which includes a couple of hours in the spa followed by dinner.

There are three main levels in the spa and we had free reign to move around and do whatever we wanted. At first we got into the indoor pool and got swept along in the lazy river, which in any normal pool situation would have been the bomb on its own! I could have stayed there all evening. Except the roof top pool was calling to me... On the roof, the open air pool is filled with water that fell as rain around 10,000 years ago and then sank to a depth of about 2km. Then it is heated naturally by high temperature rocks before rising back up through one of the three hot springs in the centre of the city, the same as the Roman Baths. Historical huh?! Romantical huh?!

Oh yeah, did I mention that periodically it turns into a huge jacuzzi full of bubbles...?! And best of all for us (because we are pure goons) they have pool noodles! Pool noodles are the most fun for all grown ups right? It can't just be us, seriously, can it?! I think Rob would like to be an official pool noodle tester, if anyone out there reading this could hook him up with a new career path...that would be awesome.

And how could I forget the steam rooms? I'm not talking the steam room at the gym where you feel kind of gross and awkward sitting next to a couple of body building types huffing and puffing. These are four glass pods; each pod is scented with its own individual steamy smell. It was like delicious floral sweaty torture pampering, hurrah!

After switching floors several times we went up to watch the sunset in the rooftop pool then made our way to the restaurant. Have you ever been to a restaurant where everyone is dripping wet and in matching fancy white robes? No?! Haha, well it certainly is peculiar but once you get that first glass of rosé down you, it's dead fun!

After dinner we went to one of our favourite cocktail bars and had dessert and espresso martinis. I had to crawl up the stairs to bed once we got home, I was that relaxed!

All that pampering made me think about health and pampering and beauty in the run up to the wedding. I'm usually a pretty low maintenance kind of a girl. One of the most important things for me will be to feel like I look good on my wedding day. I have that type of frizzy hair that cannot be tamed - trust me, I spent ten years of my life straightening it twice a day.

Now I'm older and wiser I have grown to love my unruly hair. My Mum used to call me Tim Burton after my hair twin. I know I want to have natural hair on my wedding day, which scares the heck out of me. If you are a thick curly-haired sister you know the fear of letting someone else mess with your hair. Hairdressers (at least the ones I've let loose on me) are the devil. They only want to blowdry/brush/straighten/thin my hair and that is CRAZY. Under no circumstances should I ever EVER blow-dry or brush my hair! So I'm trying to let it grow, I'm trying to treat it with care and I'm hoping my fairy godmother appears between now and the wedding with the gift of a hairdresser whom I can trust.

(Also, and this is a secret, I have a grey hair. Yep, just one. I'm so torn if I should dye my hair for the wedding to cover one grey hair. I kind of want to but I know it's beyond crazy.)

So apart from having trust issues with hairdressers I'm also trying to get fit. Last week I did my first ever spin class...! Let me just say how much I don't think it's important to bend over backwards to 'loose weight' before you get married. But if you're like me and you've have a couple of kids and a few too many left over chicken dippers, knock yourself out. Which is pretty well what I did at my spin class.

If you've ever seen people working out that are drenched in sweat and you've been like 'ugh, I couldn't sweat like that if I tried', well try a spin class. I was a mess! I hated it but the kind of hate that goes away after a couple of hours and you realise you're looking up the timetable of classes to see if you could fit it in twice a week. I must be crazy.

I've never even had a real life manicure/pedicure. Not that I wouldn't want to, but it's just never happened. I do it myself and I've always been happy with that. I definitely want to make it a thing I do for the wedding though. And probably a few times before hand just to make sure I like it.

In a couple of weeks I'm going away for a mini-break with my Bridesmaids and I'm counting down the minutes!!! Next months post is going to be very special! EEeeeeekkkk!!!!

Summer xxx
