Glowing Goddess Facials You Can Do Yourself

Here at MDC, we love calling upon top beauty pros to share advice on everything from hair, makeup and skin care. Today, we are thrilled to have Los Angeles-based skincare expert Stacy Cox sound off on at-home facials that will leave your skin gorgeous and glowing!

I've been delivering facials for the past 15 years (time sure does fly!), and there's a specific conversation that I seem to have with every client that walks through my door. Guests always ask, "How do we get my skin to glow?" My response is two fold: The professional treatments they receive from me are part of the equation and the second part lies in at-home treatment, specifically mini-facials. Just work these 10- to 15-minute routines in a couple times a week. Like muscles, skin cells have cellular memory. So by being consistent you have the ability to transform your appearance. I have two easy facials that can easily be done at home and will have you looking like a goddess in no time. Get ready to glow!

The basic template to follow for both "goddess facials" includes:

1. Cleansing

2. Exfoliation

3. Mask

4. Nourishment/Protection

Goddess Flora's Dull Face Fix.

Flora was the goddess of flowers and nature as well as one of several fertility goddesses. Her boyfriend in case you're wondering was, that's right, Hercules. Inspired by Flora's blooming and revitalizing ways, this facial is designed to refresh and recharge dry, dehydrated and dull complexions.

Step 1. Cleanse the face with a hydrating formula like Shu Uemura Anti/Oxi Cleansing Oil. I love this product because it not only delivers a deep cleanse, but it's also gentle enough for sensitive skin and ultra-dry complexions.

Step 2. Slough away dead skin cells with an exfoliator like Kiehl's Clearly Corrective Skin Brightening Exfoliator. Make sure you don't get overzealous with exfoliation, as this can cause damage and irritation to your mug!

Step 3. Make your own mask with some help from Mother Nature. Mash up half of an avocado and mix in 1/4 cup of honey. After the mixture is well blended, apply it to your face, neck and throat and leave on for 10 minutes. Remove with a lukewarm wet washcloth.

Goddess Venus' Complexion Care Facial

Step 4. Finish off by applying a nourishing serum like L'Oreal Paris Age Perfect Glow Renewal Facial Oil. I love this product because it instantly replenishes and restores dull, dry skin while the ultra-lightweight non-greasy oil glides on effortlessly and absorbs quickly for a silky, smooth finish.

Venus was the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Her name has become synonymous with a woman that all men desire (ooh la la!). This facial aims to produce a Venus-like result and addresses issues common for those with combination to oily complexions. It targets, attacks and works to minimize clogged pores -- yes please!

Step 1. Cleanse with a formula that helps unclog pores and purify the skin. My go-to is L'Oréal Paris Go 360 Clean Deep Facial Cleanser. It effectively removes oil, dirt and makeup while helping combat oil and blemishes.

Step 2. Make your own exfoliator by mixing1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of olive oil. Apply the mixture to your face using gentle, circular motions. Remove with lukewarm water.

Step 3. Apply a purifying mask like The Body Shop Seaweed Iconic Clay Mask. This revitalizing mask draws out dirt and impurities from the pores.

Step 4. Finish up by applying a nourishing lotion like Lancôme Bienfait Multi-Vital SPF 30 Lotion. I love this moisturizer because of its greaseless formula that leaves skin super-soft and protected all day! Venus would approve.
