Billy Bob Thornton: Marriage Turns Me Into A 'Caged Lion'

Billy Bob Thornton has had a tumultuous relationship with marriage.
He's wed four times, most recently to Angelina Jolie, whom he divorced in 2003. He's been with his current partner, make-up artist Connie Angland, since that year, but the two haven't walked down the aisle.
During a conversation with HuffPost Live about his Emmy nomination for "Fargo," Thornton spoke frankly with host Ricky Camilleri about why marriage hasn't worked for him. It turns out, he's still not quite sure.
"Maybe there's something about the official nature of it -- maybe it's once there's a paper signed or a door seems closed, then I turn into more of a caged lion or something," Thornton said.
The actor admitted that he hasn't yet figured out whether his failed relationships had to do with the actual idea of marriage or something more personal.
"More than likely, it's not anything other than the chemistry in that union just didn't work out for whatever reason it was," he said. "Maybe it doesn't have anything to do with being married or not married."
What makes his current relationship with Angland work, Thornton said, are the many ties they share, including their daughter Bella, who turns 10 this fall.
