1950s Vintage Inspired Floral Hand Made Wedding | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

You are in for a real treat this afternoon with WWW readers Katie and Simon's sunny May wedding. With a 1950s vintage floral theme there were so many bright and colourful home made touches. From the bunting and vintage crockery to the floral bridesmaid dresses, I love it all.

There were the prettiest bouquets, sweet children and an afternoon tea.

Katie looked gorgeous in her House Of Mooshki lace dress and vintage inspired up do while Simon wore a sand coloured suit with orange tie. There is so much to enjoy about their wedding day.

Thanks so much to Andy Li for sharing his wonderful images.

THE PROPOSAL | Simon told me the day he met me he was going to marry me and I would have his children. This at first I have to admit did scare me as I was only 18. Then 18 months later he put the engagement ring on my finger, so I guess he was right for once. Although it took us a further eight and a half years to actually tie the knot.

THE VISION | 1950's, floral patterns, bright colour, vintage, quirky, laid back, fun. I wanted to make it all as much handmade as I possibly could. I wanted something different form the 'normal' 'typical' wedding. I wanted an afternoon tea feel to the reception.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | I had lists everywhere. An iphone full of pictures and ideas. I scrolled through the internet for hours. I scoured charity shops for months sourcing English china cups and saucers for our place settings and china plates for our cakes stands. I spent many hours collecting fabrics from various shops to make my decorations. I had lots of help from my mum and friend Lisa with making all the decorations.

THE VENUE | St Andrews Church in Shifnal our local church where myself, Simon and our twin girls are all christened. We then went onto The Farmhouse at the Shropshire in Muxton, Telford.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress is called Sarah designed by House Of Mooshki, the colour of the dress was apricot. My shoes were from BHS, I actually bought my shoes first, I fell in love with them the minute I saw them. It just turned out so well that everything tied in with them so well. All accessories were rose gold (bridesmaids too) I wore a rose gold bracelet by Thomas Sabo.

FINDING THE DRESS | I knew straight off I wanted something with lace, 1950's style. It's what I've always wanted. It's such a timeless look and really classy. I'd seen a dress on a website and sourced where their local stockists were. This is where I came across The Dressing Rooms in Halesowen. I didn't have the dress I originally went for, as I wasn't that keen on it in the end, but luckily they had the dress of my dreams it was made to measure so it was a perfect fit.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Suits from Peter Posh in Stafford Park. A sand coloured suit with burnt orange tie and handkerchief. Best man, father of the bride and page boy all wore matching suits.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | 1 biblical reading Ruth 1: 16-17 'Do not urge me'. The 2 nd reading is from Captain Corelli's Mandolin 'Love is a temporary madness' I love that reading because it really sums up what real love is all about.

We had a string quartet playing while guests arrived at the church, they played Canon by Pachelbel , as I walked down the aisle. They also Played Jesu joy of mans desiring by Bach while we were signing the register. The choir also sang A Gaelic Blessing during the register.

Our hymns were One more step along the world I go, How great thou art and Love divine all loves excelling. The organ lead us out to The wedding March by Mendelssohn. The string quartet then went onto the reception to play again while guests arrived and during the wedding breakfast.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Our twin daughters, my sister and her two daughters made up our fabulous bridesmaids. The 3 small ones wore matching lace ivory dresses, whilst my sister and eldest niece wore matching floral dresses. Although my mum pretty much remade my nieces dress as it was originally an adults dress, but we wanted her to match my sister. So my mum's dress making skills were put to good use.

THE FLOWERS | My flowers were done by two lovely local ladies Angela and Ann who are part of a flower group. They did a fantastic job. I went round to speak to them and discuss my ideas, they were very helpful and knowledgeable and they came up with some brilliant ideas too. The great thing about Angela and Ann is that they do this all for charity they take nothing for themselves, they give up their free time to do this for people, and it's very humbling and noble of them.

THE CAKE | I'm really not a big fan of your traditional wedding cakes and because we wanted an afternoon tea type occasion we just opted for two small tiers of fruit cake from Marks and Spencer just so we had something when it came to the 'cutting the cake' time. We also ordered small cakes from M&S to put on our homemade cake stands.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Andy Li... Fantastic, so talented he more than filled our expectations. We were all stunned when we saw the pictures he blew us away! I met Andy through our daughters at pre -school and I'd seen some of his work on social networks and his website. He'd always come across as enthusiastic and you could tell he loved being with his camera when I'd met him at various school occasions. He's very creative and passionate about what he does and this really shows in his work. He really captured every moment and re-told the story of our wedding. All my family and friends are very impressed with him and I would highly recommend him. He's very friendly, puts you at ease and does a pre wedding shoot to get you used to having your photo taken for couples like us who aren't overly confident in having their picture taken.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Pretty much everything was handmade. I covered terracotta pots with fabric for our centre pieces, cut out circles of fabric to cover small jam jars filled with sweets. We got the sweets from a great guy called Pete who owns the sweet shop 'Sweet Retreat' in Shifnal. It's a family run 'old fashioned shop' he sells all the traditional and retro sweets. I made bunting out of the left over fabric so it all tied in together. My friend and I made the top table back drop out of lengths of hessian with our handmade fabric flowers sewn on. I made a 'just married' bunting to go across the top table using the left over hessian for the lettering. In the church I had wicker hearts on the ends of the pews with orange ribbon tied on to go with the colour theme.

My flower ladies also made a beautiful pedestal for the church using white lilies, white roses, white gerberas, white carnations and lots of greenery.

My long term school friend Hayley did a fantastic job doing mine, my mums and my sisters make up. The girls in the salon where I worked also did a great job on the hair; Katie who did my hair was very good to me and did numerous trials so I was very lucky as usually brides only have one trial. Perks of the job!

We had the most amazing 1950's coach to transport my parents and bridesmaids to and from the venues. It really is a beautiful coach and Terry the owner who does vintage vehicles up for a hobby has done an outstanding job on this coach. Again Terry is very generous and let us use his coach in exchange for a donation to the Severn Hospice. Again another great person giving up their free time to these kind acts, amazing. The coach added another level to the wedding it really was a lovely touch and was admired by everybody.

Simon and I had a 1970's Rolls Royce as our transport, again another beautiful vehicle that has been kept to an exceptional high standard. The husband and wife who run the business are very friendly down to earth people who did a brilliant job, I couldn't have asked for more.

We had a band, Fruitmachine who played live music in the evening. They are a local band who are very well know and popular around our area. It was great to see everybody dancing and having fun. They did two amazing sets for us and sounded fantastic.

THE HONEYMOON | With having two small children we just opted for two nights alone in Bowness on Windermere, we stayed in the most fantastic hotel. Aphrodite's Lodge. We had our own hot tub, steam room and spa bath. The perfect way to unwind after a couple of busy days, we did venture out into Bowness, but we were more than happy to go back and enjoy our hot tub and a bottle of bubbly.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Local people gathering outside the church to see me arrive at the church. Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Simon at the end looking at me. The vicar doing the two readings. Sitting in the sunshine listening to the quartet.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | It's true what everyone says it really does go by so quick so just enjoy it and try and take it all in. Have what you want and not what you're expected to have. It's your day after all.
