In A Sleepy Mayfair Haven.

In A Sleepy Mayfair Haven.

Monday mornings don't get much better than a trip to Mayfair. Especially when that trip involves Bridal couture, beautiful gold Brian Atwood sandals and a bouquet of vintage roses and anemones...

Lucy and Piri's aim for their big day was to create an intimate, sophisticated soiree and I think it's fair to say their wedding was DEFINITELY that.

Held at London venues close to their hearts and with the guest list small, but perfectly formed, their big day really is the epitome of class and elegance.

One of my favourite things about good wedding photography is when it creates the impression that the rest of the world has ceased to exist...that time has stopped.

Somehow, Anna Taylor has managed to create that impression in one of the world's busiest cities. So a sleepy Mayfair haven it is. Sleepy, but oh so sophisticated...

Lucy the Bride:The entire spirit of our wedding was driven by the closeness of our family, friends and our love of food. Our virtual mood board of sorts conjured up visions of an old Hollywood movie, swamped in winter candlelight; we yearned to create an intimate, dressed-up dinner party in the heart of London at our favourite, traditional, old school haunts. To this day, we adore that most weekends are spent strolling past all of the places that played a part in the big day. Luckily for us the whole experience was enhanced and made all the more magical by every person we met, hired and befriended along the way.

Choosing my wedding dress was so much speedier than I had ever imagined. Third time lucky proved absolutely right, as the 3rd day of shopping led me to Brown's. This was the first dress I tried on that day, and it was a done deal in a heartbeat. Mummy and my friend Erika (my assigned wedding dress fashionista) sat sipping on pink champagne slightly peeved that the whole process was over so quickly. From the get-go, I was willing to try on any style, shape, size, from slinky to full-blown ballerina netting - but the romanticism in the hand-woven organza lace, and the natural sexiness immediately felt like a second skin.

I had my heart set on something super sparkly to off-set the simplicity of the dress. One of my darling friends Katie had bought this pair of vintage earrings from Gray's Antique Market for her very own wedding last year and kindly lent them to me.

My heart flutters at most pairs of sky-high heels, but this barely-there and slinky strap was a timeless classic. Piri was on business in New York, but far from working - he was sent on a wild goose chase to track them down and bring them back to London as a birthday present. By the time we got engaged, 4 weeks later, the shoes were still unworn - and having never lusted after any of the traditional white wedding sandals, I decided to save my Brian Atwood's for the wedding. (I sneakily broke the pact just to bring them out when I was maid of honour at my best friend Alice's wedding last August.)

Sarah-Louise and Lauren are the dream hair & make up team, both in their huge skill and beautiful energy on the big day. I virtually sat there with my eyes shut and trusted them entirely to work their magic.

Piri's Thom Sweeney suit was a much longer work in process than my wedding dress! Degrees of thread, cloth, cuff were painstakingly considered. Quality, British craftsmanship ran through every element of his outfit from head to toe.

Silk woven ties in variations of blue were worn by Piri and all of the key men on the day; David (father of the bride), Omar (father of the groom), Charlie (best man) and Jamie (bride's brother)

Vic of Scarlet & Violet had full rein over our flowers, candles, bouquets, vases and winter decoration. My brief was simply chic, elegant and romantic sprinkled through a warm glow of candlelight. I wish my knowledge of flowers had been more extensive to provide more of an impression. But Vic just got it. She is nothing short of a superstar.

Tommy our Registrar - how we love you. People still talk about him as though he were a guest at the wedding. I wish he had been. We met him at Westminster Town Hall for our Notice of Intention - and I literally stalked their office for four months to guarantee he conducted the service. His warmth, charm and gentle nature is a joy.

Chandos House is situated a stone's throw from my old school, which made it all the more significant of a place to get married. The Georgian grandeur and charm of the room reminded us of a box of Parisian Macarons. Keeley O'Mahoney was in charge of every detail making sure the day was seamless.

Corrigan's had always held a special place in my heart - it played host to my father's birthday party, and was the place of choice for most Mother's day lunches. It is also situated a stone's throw from Piri's old school. We both adore it's beating heart of good quality, heartfelt cooking, but it seemed to take on a new life when we imagined all our family and friends lined up at the bar, throwing back some Oysters and tucked away in a sleepy haven of Mayfair.

Avoiding all the traditions of wedding cake, first dance etc, it was simply our dream dinner party, surrounded at every corner by the people we love most. Huge thanks to Tara Sura in the Events team for helping us tailor our dream menu, and on the day, for making the entire restaurant feel like an extension to our home.

Anna was going to be there with us on the day from our very first telephone conversation. Besides from adoring all of her softly-focused photographs, it felt like talking to an old friend and I know she will turn into that. Her eye for catching such miniscule reactions - that only a friend can detect - is the work of a genius with a huge heart.
