A Glittering Gold & White Carnival of Love! ♥

Oh my, I'm not sure where to start with today's absolute feast for the eyes! Margaux & Rob's wedding is certainly one not to be missed. "We wanted our wedding to be a very relaxed and wanted to do something that wasn't the "norm," shares Margaux. "So, we decided on a "Carnival theme" - we had fun, food stalls as well as a kissing booth made to create a Carnival vibe. We also had beer and cider on tap."

In addition to a super stunning bride and a good looking groom, their celebration featured a kissing booth, bridesmaids in mix and match sequinned dressed and a Janita Toerien gown that is going to knock your socks off! Captured by Claire Thomson Photography get ready to sit back, relax and squeal.

Their Love Story and Proposal {With Proposal Video}: Robert and I are high school sweethearts, we have been together since we were 17. We were assigned to walk together at our schools fashion show in grade 11 and have been happy and in love ever since : ) Robert went all out for this one!!! He set up a timeline of photos in Charly's Bakery, for every year we spent together and at the end of the timeline were "Will you marry me" cupcakes! Which I totally missed!!! As I turned around to ask him what was going on, he was on his knee in the middle of the bakery (full of customers, might I add) with the most gorgeous ring i'd ever seen! Shortly afterwards, our parents walked in to celebrate with us over champagne and cupcakes. No better way to celebrate! : )

The Groom & Groomsmen's Attire: Wedding Party Entrances:
DIY Touches: Wedding Advice:
To change things up a bit, Robert and his groomsmen entered the shed to "I will wait for you" from Mumford and Sons. This gave the boys their very own moment of glory and automatically created a buzz.
The bridesmaids walked down the aisle to "Ho Hey" from The Lumineers and I entered with my dad to the traditional wedding march. We signed the register to "Hallelujah" - such a profound song!

We could not have pulled this wedding off without the hard work and support of our families. From installing chandeliers to making signs, they were there for it all. A big thank you to each and every one of you!! Robert wore a navy suit with black satin tipping. He looked very handsome! The groomsmen wore black suits with bowties. As the groom & groomsmen are all surfers, we decided to let them feel at home in their sneakers! : )

  • We made signs out of old wood & palettes we found on the farm, which we used along the farm road to direct guests to the actual venue.
  • We also collected old tins and glass bottles and spray painted them gold - these were used for flowers on the tables & hay bales.
  • We also made use of tables and chairs from my parents home so we didn't have to hire too much.
  • Old fruit bins from the farm made for perfect stalls for the beer kegs on tap and we got a friend to design special labels for the beer glasses. ("I do brew" and "To have and to hold and to drink while its cold")

  • Don't renovate the venue you planning on getting married in! Haha!! The plumber literally walked out as the guests walked in. But besides for that, I learnt that you can't get caught up in all the little things. The guests will remember the great party and the good food, not necessarily what flowers you had on the table. Decide what's important for you upfront and focus on that.
  • There are so many things that you can do yourself - just make sure you give yourself enough time to make it all.
  • I found speaking to friends that had recently gotten married so helpful. They had great tips and I booked most of my vendors based on recommendations.
