And the winner of the first-dance face-off is...

We just wrapped our own take on March Madness-the battle to find the ultimate first dance song. It was pretty tense here, as Julie and I went face to face for a month of match-ups. Who would win? Would it be a classic? An indie? A cover? Something upbeat? Something super sentimental?

Well folks, the results are in, and we're crowning Alexi Murdoch's "All My Days" as this year's winner. I'm proud that one of my selections made it to the end, but both Julie and I are super stoked that we got to share some of our favorite picks with you to consider for your big moment on the dance floor with your new spouse.

Along the way we discussed each match up's winner. In the end, these are all still 36 fantastic songs. What we learned?

  • Julie will still dance to James Taylor's "Your Smiling Face" no matter what.
  • Shira loves Beyonce's "Love On Top" but suggests it for a recessional song during the ceremony since the intro is quiet but happy, and then the party really gets started.
  • The winning song is on a soundtrack (Away We Go) and the runner-up is too (Juno). The moral of that story is that soundtracks are an awesome place to get song ideas.
  • The second runner-up was none other than our current cover boy, John Legend. Though he wrote his latest single (currently at #2 on the iTunes charts, so bravo on that!) about his wife and performed it at their wedding, the track that made it to #3 on our list was off his first studio album.
  • Shira's favorite song that Julie suggested is "As" by Stevie Wonder. Julie's favorite of Shira's is Ray Charles' "Hallelujah I Love Her So.
  • Nearly 3/4 of the songs in the bracket were performed by male musicians. Including Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World" which also makes for a great song to dance with your father to.
  • Julie won 14 face-offs, Shira won 15. But who's counting?

You can see the full and final bracket below (clock the image), and look for a playlist with every one of our contenders later this week.
