Lilac and lavender wedding colours are so lovely! These Lilac and Lavender Wedding Ideas {Trendy Tuesday} shares beautiful bridal inspiration in every sweet shade.

In this vintage inspired South African wedding, these romantic hues take centre stage in the form of gorgeous florals and a pretty purple wedding cake! Christiaan and Isabel dreamed of a vintage wedding, but with a quirky modern twist or two. In the blink of an eye their special day was over! Luckily for us, Laura Jane Photography captured all of the unique elements that were brought to life with their loving touch of creativity!

Modern Vintage Wedding Look

(Above) Modern Vintage Bridal Upstyle: Isabel was a vision of bridal beauty. Her hair had a romantic look to it, with a subtle braid that came together in the nape of her neck.

(Above) Modern Vintage Wedding Dress: " I always admired my grandmother's wedding dress, and from a very early age I decided to get married in something very similar," says Isabel. Her vintage inspired lace wedding dress designed by Immagika was exquisite with a corset bodice and a sheer illusion back design. Isabel says, " I would just like to acknowledge my mother in the planning of my wedding. She inspired me and supported me. Nothing was ever too much, too expensive or too big to ask for. She and my father gave me the wedding of my dreams. Words cannot describe how much I appreciate their love and support. I love you mom!!! My father got sick on the day of my wedding. He was hospitalized an hour before the wedding, but he discharged himself to walk me down the aisle only to go back to hospital after the ceremony. Daddy, thank you for giving me what every girl dreams of, to let her father walk her down the aisle. Thank you for placing me before yourself. You made my wedding day so special. Thank you for your courage. I love you. "

(Above Right) Modern Vintage Boutonnieres: Instead of real flowers, ribbon was used to create boutonnieres for the groom and his groomsmen.

(Above) Modern Vintage Grooms Style: The groom wore a dark grey, charcoal coloured suit with a white shirt, black shoes and a black slim tie, while his groomsmen wore light grey suits. They each had personalised cufflinks with their initials just to make it a tad more personal and they donned top hats during the photo shoot.

Love, Lilac & Lavender, Vintage Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony was amazing. The chapel was filled with candles, flowers and their favourite scriptures. When it came to the confetti, they had three different kinds. The first was traditional dried flowers. This was followed by little hand flags with bells on them, which were waved as they walked out of the chapel as husband and wife. Their guests were treated to canapés, drinks and ice cream in the monastery garden, while they slipped away to take a few photo's with their bridal party.

Christiaan and Isabel's Love Story

Friendship at first sight, Isabel tells us about how they met and fell in love: We met at Varsity in Potchefstroom. Our sorority and fraternity competed together in a serenade for the University. Between all the rehearsals and socials we became good friends. It wasn't long before we realized that there was an undeniable chemistry between us. Christiaan played hard to get and as a result, I had to make the first 'move'. It made things interesting and fun. We don't have a romantic, fairytale, love at first sight story, but we had friendship at first sight and that set a strong foundation for our relationship.

(Above) Outdoor Hanging Wedding Decor: Glass hearts and teardrops with a single flower in each were hung in the huge trees found in the beautiful garden at the Anderland venue.

The Tale Of Their Proposal

Isabel shares the story of Christiaan's sweet proposal: On the morning of 7 October 2012, Christiaan woke me up 3am and demanded I get ready. It was the last day of my varsity vacation so I thought he was taking me to do something special. He took me to a game lodge where we got into a hot air balloon. I was beside myself because a hot air balloon safari was on my bucket list. The hot air balloon drifted over the most beautiful valleys. Just as the sun started to peek over the mountain, Christiaan dropped down on one knee and asked me to marry him. We were so overjoyed that we screamed down from the balloon: "We're engaged!!!!!!!"

Lilac & Lavender Vintage Wedding Reception

(Above) Modern Vintage Wedding Chair Swag: The Tiffany wedding chairs were decorated with ribbons and laser-cut shapes and objects that the couple adore, such as dinosaurs, dogs birds and music instruments.

(Above) Modern Vintage Wedding Décor: The wedding décor was in shades of dove-grey and purple. On each table there was a silver and crystal chandelier with candles, which created the perfect romantic atmosphere.

(Above Left) Modern Vintage Wedding Table Numbers: The table numbers were displayed in vintage photo frames and personalised with the couple's favourite Bible scriptures to make it more personal.

(Above) Lilac & Lavender Vintage Wedding Flowers: Roses, lavender, tulips and other flowers in shades of purple and white were grouped together in different vases.

(Above Right) Modern Vintage Guest Place Cards: Little laser-cut wooden place cards in elaborate designs were attached to each guest's wine glass.

  • Try to always stay calm and be open-minded. The whole process of planning a wedding can be very stressful. Listen to everyone's advice and suggestions, and use the information YOU find helpful. When it feels like everyone has an opinion, keep in mind that they are just interested and excited with you.
  • Try to limit the amount of guests. Just invite the people and children that you have a special relationship with. This can be achieved by selecting a venue with limited seating and one that does not allow children.
  • Try to limit the use of flowers to save costs. Flowers are beautiful, but try to limit the use of flowers and rather use something more sustainable that you can use afterwards.
  • Consider alternatives to the traditional wedding cake to save costs: The sentiment of a wedding cake is nice, but at the end of the day 90% of it goes to waste.
  • Try to use re-usable stuff for your décor. My mother owns a guesthouse, and she was able to use all the décor from my wedding in her guesthouse.
  • Try to plan the wedding yourself. If you have the time available, plan your own wedding, as this will eliminate the cost of a wedding planner.
  • Ensure that your guests are entertained while you're having your photo's taken. Everyone enjoyed the vintage carnival vibe in the monastery garden whilst we slipped away to take a few photo's with our bridal party. The string trio played in the background, a fun and whimsical photo booth entertained the guests and the ice cream station cooled everyone down on the hot afternoon.
