Turning Dreams Into Reality

Turning Dreams Into Reality

My, this wedding is so swish. You know when every single detail is perfectly executed and exudes a super shiny glossy gorgeousness? that.

Emma looks a vision in her Naomi Neoh gown and the confetti images in particular are to die for. There is also the prettiest marquee interior - the blooms displayed in hampers are a clever and eye-catching idea.

This is English Country Garden at it's very finest folks.

Emma The Bride: Like every other girl in the world (and perhaps secretly every boy too) I had occasionally allowed myself to dream of what my wedding day would be like. Visions of billowing ivory chiffon, rose-laden bouquets, a long church aisle, confetti flurries and smiling faces had hovered at the periphery of my imagination for as long as I can remember...what I found harder to grasp was that it was now my turn to turn these dreams into reality.

We didn't have a theme as such however both had a very clear idea of the look and feel we wanted to create. We planned for guests to be enveloped in a traditional rural setting ensconced in an English country garden punctuated by pretty finishing touches. The reception, hosted in the field at the bottom of our family home, came to life with milk churns, hay bales, cattle troughs, festoon lighting, pretty fabric windmills, bunting, lanterns and 120 of our closest friends and family.

Something I had always felt quite strongly about was choosing a wedding dress that was just that little bit different from anything else that I had ever seen. The first time I tried on my Naomi Neoh wedding gown at a studio in Dulwich with my mum was one of the happiest moments of my life...I just knew that this was the dress...it was as if it had been designed just for me. It incorporated all of the elements that I had liked from other dresses, beautiful, beautiful lace, a stunning back, sweeping skirt and fairytale train complemented by an incredibly delicate raw-silk pale pink rose flower at my waist. I didn't look back...!

Flowers were arranged in huge wicker picnic hampers, antique enamel slops buckets and jugs and a collection of small glass vases which were clustered at intervals down the trestle tables. The blooms we chose evoked wild flower meadows and were soft pinks, pale blues and creams. My bouquet comprised roses, gypsophila and rosemary and I had my granny's locket woven in to the handle so that she was a part of the day. Ribbons were given a starring role, tied around the bottom of all champagne flutes, the A5 sized order of services and our cutlery. Luckily we managed to source the particular pattern that we wanted wholesale which reduced the cost considerably.

We didn't want to have a top table as such so instead arranged an oval table with the best men, bridesmaids, our siblings and best friends. The table plans for the remaining five trestle tables were arranged so that friends all sat together. Dinner was a delicious rustic buffet laid out on trestle tables decorated with edible flower petals and delicate herbs and in a nod to my husband's very sweet tooth, pudding was a trio of our favourite deserts all served up on one plate. My sister (also bridesmaid) hand made 120 fairy cakes decorated with pale pink icing, a sprig of gypsophila and a teeny tiny ribbon bow for our cakes, which were delightful.

Ahead of the speeches we served a shot of iced caramel and pear drop vodka to everyone, made by a couple in the village which meant that the speeches were even better received than they would have been! After dinner, a photo booth was set up in the entrance to the marquee complete with Gatsby-esque props and an old fashioned camera...it created a great atmosphere and made for some hilarious pictures. Our live band were absolutely fantastic and ensured that the dance floor was full to the brim for the whole of their sets.

It is almost impossible to pick a favorite moment from the day, which exceeded absolutely all of my expectations, hopes and dreams. Suffice to say that it was absolutely the best day of our lives and one that we often relieve and look forward to reliving for many years to come.
