Chic & Simple Yellow & Navy Wedding | Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Jacob and Susan held their wedding day in August at The Falcon Inn, Cambridgeshire in a gorgeous countryside setting. With a vision of a simple and chic day; they used low key details in their marquee.

Susan looked beautiful in lace with her hair in a perfect up do, while Jacob went for a navy suit and yellow tie to compliment the colour scheme. The bridesmaids looked super pretty, there were quirky Craspedia bouquets and stylish silhouette cake.

Thanks so much to Jeanie Isobel Photography for sharing her lovely images with us.

The Proposal... It was New Year's Eve 2012. We went to Stamford under the ruse that we had been together 9 months to the day, and it was our first day out since Jake had got back from Mexico after a month away. Jake knew he was going to propose, but hadn't planned the day to the last detail. We walked round the narrow, streets seeking refuge from the rain in gorgeous little bookshops and antique shops. Since it was New Years Eve, loads of the restaurants Jake had looked at eating in were closed. So we ended up eating in Pizza Express! Afterwards, the rain got heavier so we sought shelter in a tiny alley called St Mary's Passage, Jake said "I've been carrying something heavy in my pocket all day..." got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him!

The Vision for the Day... We both love the beauty in simplicity, so we wanted to keep things low key, nothing ostentatious but still chic. The thing first decided was the colour scheme - navy and gold- and things just snowballed from there.

The Planning Process... We wanted to get as much done as early as possible, we started with the venue and went from there! We spent ages trawling through magazines and realised how pricey weddings were but we were determined we could have our dream wedding even with a tight budget. We have very generous parents and so we couldn't have done it without them.

The Venue... The Falcon Inn at Fotheringhay - absolutely stunning venue with delicious food and staff that couldn't do more for us, they were incredible!

The Dress + Accessories... The dress was bought from Maison de la Bride on Lincoln Road, Peterborough. It was A-line with a sweetheart neckline, and lace detailing. I wore it with a lace bolero - which I loved! I felt so special wearing it!

The colour of the suit was the most important thing, it had to be a very blueish navy. We found perfect suit in a Next in Cambridge, Jake was determined to wear a waistcoat and he found it in just the right colour! The whole came to only £135 for all three pieces - a real bargain!

The Flowers... We used a mixture of white roses, brilliant yellow celosia and craspedia, with gypsophila to pull it all together. We bought the flowers from a wholesaler in Spalding and got an old family friend, aunty Helen Hillson, to assemble them into table centrepieces, bouquets and buttonholes for the boys. She's also talented and we were blown away with what she produced!

We met Jade Sayers at a wedding fair in Peterborough, and she immediately stood out from other photographers there with her kind demeanour and stunning portfolio. She definitely captured the sort of style of photos we wanted for our special day, and it was a no brainer for us that we wanted Jade to shoot our wedding! To win a free engagement shoot in a competition she was running was just the icing on the cake! Jade' passion for photography shone through on our wedding day itself, she had found some exquisite places to shoot photos in Fotheringhay, all from exploring the village in her own time! We've had the pleasure of keeping in touch with Jade post-wedding too, she's a lovely woman!

Barcelona is an amazing city. We were wowed by the genius of the architect Gaudi, we fell in love with tapas and could have walked La Rambla hundreds of times and never be bored. We can't wait to return one day.

Susan - When I arrived at the hall for the ceremony, I peeked through the doors and saw Jake standing at the front, with his big Cheshire Cat grin! The biggest thing that stood out to me on our wedding day was the overwhelming warmth. We shared the day with our closest friends and family, we were touched by their generosity and well wishing, it still makes me well up when I think about it!
