Melissa and Phil were college sweethearts - they met through mutual friends while attending university in Sudbury. On their five-year anniversary in October 2012 they decided to take a trip to Vermont to celebrate. They heard it was beautiful there in the fall and thought it would be a perfect trip since they both love travelling and being outdoors. Unbeknownst to Melissa, Phil had big plans for their trip. "One morning as we were hiking up a mountain we stopped at a little outlook area and I started to snap some pictures," Melissa explains. "Next thing I knew, he was down on one knee proposing! I was literally on top of the world. We popped some champagne and enjoyed the view, but I couldn't wait to get back on the ground so I could jump up and down! It was perfect and totally unexpected - Phil is not really the typical, predicable type."
Melissa Murphy and Phil Bouffard, September 28, 2013, Tottenham, Ontario.The couple wanted their wedding to have a natural, rustic feel. They exchanged vows at a beautiful waterfront ceremony at Woodington Lake Golf Club in front of 170 of their friends and family.
"Finally getting to walk down the aisle to marry my best friend was such an exciting moment!" shares Melissa. "The whole day was wonderful, it was exactly what we wanted - laidback and very reflective of us. Just being together and around all the people we loved made it the best day ever!"
A week after the wedding the newlyweds made their way to Spain: Madrid, Granada and Barcelona for a week of food, wine and exploring. From there they jumped on a plane and went to the Seychelle Islands, a place that Melissa describes as, "A little piece of paradise. The perfect place to relax and unwind and spend time as husband and wife."
