Polka dots are one of those magic patterns that can either look very modern or very retro depending upon how you use it. For example, look at how cool polka dots can become when paired with bright florals and other black and white patterns like chevrons and checkerboard (below)? It looks chic and completely original.

But if you want to play up the retro-ness of polka dots, try changing up the scale of the dots and what you pair with them. If you want something truly retro, use table decor that has a nostalgic vibe (below, left).

Of course, if every surface and detail at your wedding was covered in polka dots, it would be pretty overwhelming. But some small details can pack a punch. These pretty polka dot poms (above) are now on my must-get-for-next-party list. And these favor bags (below) will have guests going home with your theme in hand.

You also don't need to cover your cake in fondant dots (unless you want to) to extend your theme to the dessert table. Use ribbon or patterned cupcake liners. And you can decorate the wall behind your cake table with bunting (above, right).
