If I was to be a bride, I’d want to look like one of these girls.

Donning ethereal dresses from the Fable and Promise 2014 collection, dramatic berry hued make up and natural hair this bridal editorial feels like autumn is tangible. I so love the dresses from the Fable and Promise Legend collection, with unusual cuts and pretty fabrics, they are just perfect for the stylish bride.

“My name is Charis Talbot, I’m a photographer based in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. Recently I did a Bridal editorial. I’m new to Bridal fashion and wedding photography but I knew I wanted to retain the elements I used in my fashion and fine art photography; mainly the evocative use of sunlight and dreamy touches woven with a bit of fairytale magic.

I was approached by Fable and Promise through my facebook and was immediately excited by their website and enthusiasm via email. I contacted make-up artist Kitty Kerry and Tony Arts the hair stylist, both of whom I have worked with before. I knew that this styling team would produce something wonderful and be able to communicate well with me. I sent mood boards off to everyone involved and did a casting call for models. The two models are Sophie Natrass and Jennifer Brown both with Tyne Tees models.

The collection I photographed was part of Fable and Promise’s Legend collection for S/S 2014 which is based on Legends and myths. The dresses worn by the models are part of the Sidhe collection. a type of fairy gentry or royalty who move between worlds through overgrown and forgotten doorways. I thought the local overgrown graveyard would be perfect for he concept of the dresses. I really wanted to use the autumn leaves and sunshine for the shoot which worked well but alas the sun went in earlier than expected and it began to rain so we didn’t get to shoot as much as we had hoped.

The models had two looks, one traditional and feminine then the other slightly dramatic catering for the more alternative customer. We also incorporated headpieces into the images. I wanted the models to be younger because I wanted to a fresh aspect to the images almost as if one was recalling a scene read in a book set at the beginning of the 20th century when brides were younger and weddings were more a rite of passage between girlhood and womanhood. I felt this fitted in with the Autumnal theme, the ending of summer frolics and the focus on the bigger picture and also the slight pagan and fairy theme. 

I think editorial photography should always be about escapism- the same way book worms feel about books.”

 

 

 

“Fable & Promise are a bridal shop in Blackburn, the heart of Lancashire, however they are a bridal boutique with a difference. Not only do they show collections from renown contemporary designers but they are well known for their bespoke bridal design service, creating unique one-of-a-kind alternatives to ‘off the peg’ wedding dresses for brides who want to rock their day their own way. Fable & Promise were invited to design a bridal collection under their in-house label; Legend Bridal Designs, and to host a catwalk at Manchester Fashion Week running in Spring next year. The Legend collection is inspired by myth and folklore. Design elements were taken from 3 legends that have lent their name to each mini collection… The Asrai, The Huldra and The Sidhe. The dresses modelled by Natasha and Jennifer are previews from The Sidhe collection; a type of faerie royalty or gentry who travel between worlds through overgrown and forgotten doorways.”
