Quirky + Colorful Brooklyn Wedding: Grace + Andrea

Quirky + Colorful Brooklyn Wedding: Grace + Andrea

Today’s super rad wedding took place at The Green Building in Brooklyn, which just so happens to be one of my absolute favorite venues! Since Grace + Andrea love to have fun and don’t like to take themselves too seriously, their day echoed their playful personalities and was filled with lots of quirky + colorful details. But nothing was included just for the sake of taking up space. They incorporated objects + elements that signified something special to the two of them and, in turn, their day was a natural extension of the life they’ve built together. Here’s a bit more from the newlyweds:

While the event had the general structure of a wedding, we were pretty adamant that we do it on our terms. It was all about what we love and who we love. A Muppet video, plastic dinosaurs, vintage vases, library card catalogue place cards with personalized typed notes, calamansi margaritas, not a single slow song, a reading of the Majority Opinion in “Goodridge v. Department of Public Health,” etc, etc!

Big thanks to Khaki Bedford Photography for the awesome photography and congrats to Grace + Andrea!

One of the most memorable moments was one we didn't actually witness, but it set the tone for the evening and we assume was rather memorable for our guests. Before we walked down the aisle, we projected "Somebody's Getting Married" from the Muppets Take Manhattan on the wall above the ceremony. What was most surprising, I think, was that no one seemed overly surprised that we'd play a Muppet video at our wedding. Or that Andrea and I would agree, without much conversation at all, that it would be a good idea.

Grace + Andrea exchanged their vows on a mini stage decorated with marquee letters of their initials. Majorly love it! :)

Their save the date was illustrated by Small Adventure, and featured some of their favorite things – Pee Wee Herman, books, Windex, gems, and their cats. Such a fun idea to include it as part of their wedding decor!

The playful tone carried through the reception decor with personalized notes typed on library cards at every place setting, terrarium table numbers, and floral centerpieces put together by Grace’s mom.

And petite pennant banners made from paint chips were scattered around different areas of the venue. So cute, right?! And would be easy to DIY for your own day!

While I truly love everything about this wedding, my favorite detail of their day just might be this incredible “donut tree” created by the couple’s best friend, Barry! Something about it just makes me happy — and hungry! :)

Our advice would be to remember that while the day is yours, it's really about all your friends and family who want to celebrate with you. And they won't realize that the tequila ran out in four minutes or that the officiant is a little more cheesy than you would have liked. They just want to celebrate with you.
