Marsha & Kevin | Elegant Pink Wedding at The Foundry

Marsha & Kevin | Elegant Pink Wedding at The Foundry

Pink Week continues with this beautiful New York City wedding from photographer Carmen Santorelli. Marsha and Kevin wanted an elegant wedding that reflected the urban locale – I’d say they succeeded!

Another rainy day bride shares her experience of less-than-perfect weather: “When I woke up on my wedding day it was dark, cloudy and pouring rain, but I kept a smile on my face because I realized that the horrible weather was beyond my control (the best wedding advice ever!). Miraculously, when my photographers arrived at the hotel, the rain clouds cleared and the sun came out just long enough to capture beautiful getting ready photos on the terrace. But Mother Nature has a sense of humor; it suddenly started to rain immediately after tapping Kevin on the shoulder for our first look! The happy ending to this story is that when the ceremony was over and everyone excited the church, we were all surprised to see that the rainy morning turned into a beautiful, summer afternoon without a cloud in sight.”

Says Marsha: “Our goal was for our wedding to embody all of the things we love and enjoy – excellent food, energetic ambience and great music. To make our wedding a unique experience we drew inspiration from the juxtapositions of New York City. With a theme of urban elegance in mind, we aimed to contrast the harshness of an industrialized space with delicate décor to create a feeling of intimacy.”

The cake was red velvet. There was also a signature cocktail, “Absolut Summer,” which included citron vodka, pink lemonade, blueberries, strawberries, and mint.

Why did you choose this location for your wedding?  When we walked into the Foundry, Kevin and I knew immediately that this was our venue. It’s a unique raw space with exposed brick and an urban charm that allowed our imaginations to run wild. The greenhouse is absolute breathtaking, after seeing the delicate climbing ivy over the brick with the enormous skylight – we were sold! We wanted our wedding to be nontraditional and modern so the Foundry was the perfect choice.

What was your favorite moment or part of the day?  Marsha: My favorite moment of the day was when I walked down the first half of the aisle with my 91 year old grandmother.  My grandmother and I have a very close relationship and she was recently hospitalized and for a period of time she was unable to walk.  Just a few short weeks later and with the help of physical therapy, she was able to walk me down the aisle to my father and had a smile from ear to ear.  This was such a special and emotional moment that words cannot describe – it was truly one of the highlights of my wedding. // Kevin: My favorite moment was when Marsha and I were seated at our sweetheart table and I looked across the room and saw all of our close family and friends looking back at us with such overwhelming love and support.  It was at that moment that I remember whispering to Marsha, “It was all worth it!”

What was the best advice you received as a bride?  One of the best pieces of advice I received was to understand that things may happen on my wedding day that will be beyond my control. And to enjoy not only each and every moment of the day but the planning process because in an instant these precious moments will be just mere memories.

What advice do you have for other brides?  As many brides already know, planning a wedding is extremely time consuming and a truly exhausting process. My first piece of advice is to be super organized and to do everything within your power to get all wedding related tasks out of the way as early as possible. By doing this, you can actually relax and enjoy the days leading up to your wedding. My next piece of advice is at some point during the day, pull your partner aside and have a moment to yourselves. Lastly, if possible, delay your honeymoon until a few days after your wedding to allow time to rest and to enjoy the friends and family members who will be visiting from out of town. We flew out to our all-inclusive honeymoon in paradise the day after our wedding… big mistake! We spent 4 out of the 8 days sleeping and ordering room service because we were too tired to leave our room!

Do you have any budget tips for other brides?  We saved a large amount of money for which all the credit goes to Kevin because financial planning is his expertise.  We negotiated prices with all of our vendors which brought down the overall price. We also meticulously reviewed all of our contracts and removed all unwanted services.  Thousands of dollars were shaved off of our final cost when we decided to only have our videographer for our ceremony and the beginning of our reception. Lastly, we decided to pick up some of the rentals which saved us huge delivery fees.
