Erin Bailey was an aspiring makeup artist who was looking for an outlet to share her love of beauty. To do so she started Scandalous Beauty in 2005. It was by the grace of the beauty gods that we found Erin via Twitter. In reviewing her account and also her blog we fell in love. Someone who has the love of beauty and the ability to capture that through a blog was a person we had to have at our Fashion 360 Conference. Erin’s blog is a hub for makeup reviews, tutorials, celebrity artist interviews and other beauty exclusives. Erin was named a Top Black Beauty Blogger by Essence, and was featured as a Top Beauty Tweeter by WPIX in New York. She also has a lifestyle blog, Peace & Love, Erin Joy. As you can see she is a blogger that has made this into a business. Many bloggers are striving to do the same and is why we have asked Erin to serve as a Panelist on the Blogger Panel. Here is a sample of what Bloggers can expect when they attend the Fashion 360 Conference. District Fete: How has blogging impacted you on a personal and professional level? Scandalous Beauty: Blogging has changed my entire life! I’ve met a lot of people while blogging, many making me laugh and cry (cheesy, I know). Some of us are very, very close. I learned to write, code html and CSS, create multimedia, understand branding and marketing. In fact, learning these things helped me get internships at several organizations, leading me to careers at National Geographic and Johns Hopkins University. District Fete: Where do you see the blogging community in the next 5 years? Scandalous Beauty: In 5 years, I think blogging will be a totally different platform. A few years ago, you had to take photos on your computer, get home, upload them and edit before posting. Now you can just jump on your phone and edit with an app, then send through Instagram or upload directly to your blog. I also think that bloggers will have to step it up as far as quality goes. So many people are bloggers now, and readers ultimately want great content. District Fete: As a beauty blogger what items do you covet the most? Scandalous Beauty: I couldn’t live without my DSLR and camcorder. I use them to get shots of products and to film my tutorials. I get pretty good pictures on my iPhone too. I also can’t live without makeup remover! District Fete: Are companies truly benefiting by having a blogger on board and if so how are bloggers tapping into this need? Scandalous Beauty: Absolutely. People don’t want to be sold to, and bloggers help merge that gap between real people and the company. Bloggers are always pitching companies as ambassadors, bloggers, etc. This is why it’s great to have a media kit, to show off your brand and why the company would need you.
