Happy Friday my b.loved’s!  Last up this week, but certainly not least is a bit of an indulgent Friday treat.  Today we’re meeting Roma from Sweetness Cake Boutique, an independent cake designer based in London, who’s work I discovered on Twitter’s #weddinghour.  {Side note: If you’re not using Twitter to plan your wedding, and you’re looking for talented, creative and stylish wedding pro’s to help on your big day then you’re missing a trick.  Follow me @blovedweddings and join in the conversation!} Having trained in classic French patisserie, Roma’s attention to detail is incredible, creating cakes, cookies and cupcakes with exquisite detail and beautiful sugar work.  Her style is pretty, with a touch of vintage but her designs are varied and she has lots of contemporary, and more alternative designs too!

I chatted to Roma to find out more!

My style is… romantic , vintage. I love vintage colours, beautiful sugar flowers and intricate piping detail. Sweetness Cake Boutique is know for our exquisite sugar flower bouquets, I love sugar flowers as they can be designed to complement any wedding theme and can be saved as keep sakes after the big day.

I’m inspired by… my clients, they provide a constant source of inspiration for me. Every one of them has a unique feel and idea for their wedding and I get the pleasure of trying to envision their day as they see it and make them their dream cake. It’s wonderful getting to know them and then design something that is a perfect fit for their personalities.

My favourite piece  is… difficult to say! I love all the cakes for different reasons. If I had to choose one it would probably be the Vintage Rose cake as I designed that cake for myself as my dream wedding cake. I love the rose bouquet at the top in pale, vintage pinks with the leaves growing out of it to make it look like it’s blossomed out of the cake. I also adore the piping detail on the sides which was designed around vintage pearl necklaces and gives it a glamorous look.

Trends I love right now… the trend for sugar flowers will continue to grow strong as they complement wedding cakes so well. I also love the old Hollywood glamour trend that is popular, cakes with beautiful piping detail and quite decadent looking.

I admire… Ben Israel always makes beautiful cakes and is at the top of his field. I am also a big fan of Eddie Spence, his piping skills are second to none, he is a very rare talent.

I love my job because… I feel very privileged to have a career where I can be part of such a joyous time in people’s lives and make their day extra special by making them their dream cake for them. I love the creative side to cake designing and decorating and can happily spend days making sugar flowers or working on piping detail on cake.

Weddings make me… emotional. It’s the coming together of two people to make a commitment for life to one another in front of all their loved ones. It’s such a wonderful celebration. Most women say they felt their most beautiful on their wedding day and most grooms say they felt like the luckiest man in the world. It’s usually one of the most happiest days in a couple’s lives together and how lucky am I to be a part of that.

My advice for couples planning their wedding is… when looking for a wedding cake designer have a very good idea of your vision for the day, the look and feel of the wedding. Then do some research to find designers who fit into that theme or look. Book your designer at least 3 months in advance especially during the summer months when they are busiest that way you ensure you get the designer you want. Finally, always taste their cakes, this is probably the most important thing as you want the cake to taste and good as it looks.
